The only that sucks about it, is that some people just can't do it, but they'll still get fined.

We got about 12" of heavy, wet snow yesterday. Somebody in their 80's shouldn't be out there shoveling that stuff just to avoid a fine.

Best post in this thread...so far.

Not much snow in my current area but, when I lived in an area where we had regular snow, I always cleaned my drive & sidewalks for this reason.

We got over a foot probably closer to 18 inches yesterday of wet heavy snow. Fortunately I have a plow so I didn't shovel mine either. I did plow mine and 4 neighbors. :)

When I was in high school, I'd walk the mile to my parent's from the beginning of their road every day. There was a guy who lived about half way who bought a house and was obviously just running it into the ground (later went into foreclosure). He had a late 90s Explorer. After every storm, I'd see the ruts get deeper and deeper. He made it through every time, he'd just get a running start for the end of the driveway where the bank the plow made was (and push snow out into the road with his bumper and grill). It was a circular driveway, so he never had to back up or turn around.

Eventually, we got a storm with about 2 feet. That day, I walked home and saw his Explorer stuck in the massive snowbank at the end of his driveway. The banks were probably around 7-8 feet high on the sides of the road at that point. His was a little less because he had been plowing through it for so long, but at this point there was no way anything was going to make it through that.

The Explorer sat for a couple days. Eventually, he must have realized he couldn't just stay in the house for the rest of the winter because the whole driveway was plowed.

That's why you have to be a good neighbour and do it for them. ;)

Exactly this... Actually, they should not even expect play money. When I grew up we helped out the neighbors, and when we needed help they helped us out. Just did it because that's what you do...not expecting anything in return. I still mow my elderly neighbor's yard every once in a while, just because I am already out there doing mine and it looks like theirs need mowing too. But I guess it's just different generations doing things differently.

In the mean time, I just want to say, I do not ever have to shovel my neighbor's driveway. Florida for the win. :D

Yeah, it gets away from you in a hurry if you don't keep up with it. When we were in our old house my snowblower kicked off after a good-sized storm, and we had two more by the time it got fixed and running again, by which time we had a huge heater bank that the town plows had kicked up, and I high-centered my '99 trying to get it out. Took me 45 minutes to shovel it free.

Ironically, I got stuck trying to get out so that I could go and pick the snowblower up from the small engine shop, lol.
