Funny how you lock out diesel as an option when cross shopping trucks. Look at the Ford 2.7 eco-boost that gets better mileage with more power in a full size truck. The ram HFE with a gas 3.0 V6 gets 25 mpg on the highway. Both of these are full-size trucks with more towing and payload capability and better gas mileage.

If Toyota or any other midsize truck manufacture would actually put in the same effort they do on full-size pick ups, we could easily see 30 mpg highway

lol... this is probably the best laugh I have had in a while...

Anyway... I do own a GM. Just bought a Canyon. It fit my needs better than the Taco did. Simple enough? If I needed a 4x4 truck, I would have kept the Taco instead. But once again something you are having issues with understanding, Toyota doesnt win every category. Toyota's dont have high expectations, how many times do you hear.... rattles are part of being a Toyota owner, or you just have to deal with the lean, or its a truck deal with the bad mpg, list goes on and on... if you worked in the "car business" you would know that.

Please enlighten me on how the standard Ford rear end (3.31) vs their top factory 3.73 gets a difference of (your quote) "several miles per gallon" difference, when they are rated within 1 MPG of each other? Even real world numbers posted by people show that.

Believe it or not. This isnt the 70s anymore. MPGs do matter, and gear ratios differences are not nearly as important to MPG as it use to be. So ,yeah... its obvious you need a little bit more education on this matter.

I can only honest tell you the mpg I've gotten out of the ones I've driven, at least a few thousand miles. The Ford echo boost F150, the Silverado 5.3, the Tacoma 4.0, the Tacoma 3.5, Tundra, Titan, Ridgeline, Colorado......I've driven each of them over the last few years. Seriously no major difference in mpg in any of them on the Highway. They all get about 20mpg (probably vary 18-20) from what I've experienced. There's no appreciable difference. Never driven a Ram very much, so I couldn't tell you. But honestly there isn't enough of a difference to be having such an incredibly useless argument.

I don't know if I want a turbo in my truck, I can honestly say I hated driving the 2.7 Ford, but that's just my opinion. As far as gas mileage goes, I really can't say I've experienced it getting more than 20mpg on the Highway. I'm guessing for the mid sized trucks, it's probably something to do with the fact they weighs 4,000 lbs and are not very aero dynamic. I feel like a bigger motor would probably have a better chance at getting more mpg on the highway, just due to the fact it wouldn't have to rev as high. So do I like the fact that Toyota went to the 3.5? Not really, I prefer the 4.0. It's obvious they want to cut production costs, and use their mass produced 3.5 while phasing out the 4.0.

I don't eliminate diesel, I like diesels. You just can't compare the mpg without also getting into the extra costs associated.

You must be turning your twin off on the highway :D, not a chance in hell that truck does 25mpg. Maybe I need to drive it more than 3000 miles, but that's all I got out of it before we sold it. Next time we trade one in i'll definitely give it another shot. My first tank on my little 4 banger Taco was 422 miles @ 18.12 gallons. My commute is 30 mins, average speed 25mph and I start it 10mins before I get in it every day.

Well, I googled it. I'm an internet web master now. Obviously a mustang is quite a bit different than an F150, but this is the first thing that came up in my google search.

Sorry I should have done the multi quote, don't mind me.

I've been in the car business 6 years now, as a sales person, sales manager, ops manager..... with a couple different auto groups, always at least one Toyota store. I can count on one hand how many times I've had someone complain of a rattle (for any brand). We lemon lawed a Sienna over rattles. I've been involved someway in every lemon law case, and every major service complaint, for this group for the last 15 months. That's it, seriously. I've seen the complaints online, but I really can't figure out how there can be so many complaints online but just never ran into one of them at one of our (quite busy) stores. It's very odd.

On the other hand, I'm seeing lots of Corollas come in with blown CVT's, but NOT seeing complaints online about it....weird stuff.

So let's say both our internet idiots are wrong, and the truth is somewhere in the middle, at a couple mpg? I'm not going to bother looking it up more honestly haha. It's pretty simple physics (all the sudden I'm a physicist?) taller gears will get you better mpg but less of a "truck".

I think I did great today, drove down to Benson, AZ and averaged 23.5 mpg, running 75-80. The 23.5 mpg was in calculating it, would have been higher but I packed the tank.

You are the first person I've ever heard say this unless they were towing a lot. Most of the trucks at the new place I work have the 2.7 twin turbo. It's a quick little engine. Far quicker in the F150 than a 4.0 L in the 2nd gen Tacoma even.

We just had somebody buy a 2012 F150 from us, 2.7. Traded it in a week later (took a 4k loss) to get into a silverado. When I called to follow up with the guy (I heard he was upset, obviously) he told me he can't believe we'd sell such a shitty truck, the sales person told him "Its just like your V8". Needless to say he's got a good will check in the mail to him because I felt he was deceived.

Now, I didn't dislike it that bad, but I did not like the thing either.

Wow, I just caught this little nugget. You have a 2wd truck, and you're talking about how it's getting better mpg than your 4wd Tacoma.

There isn't a laughy face good enough for this one....
