Absolutely agree, that's why I suggested getting a HAM tech license. Way more capability and usefulness.

    I agree BUT:

As a group we can only get an average of 20% to show up with functioning CBs. Including myself. Mines FUBAR at the moment. Which is why I say a $24 handheld seems perfect. Nothing to wire, tune ect and it's cheap. If everyone showed up with one (knowing they're so cheap many would have spares) we would be set. Likelyhood of getting more than 50% to buy a cheap handheld is much higher than them showing up with functioning CBs, let alone getting a HAM license. Chances of more than 50% doing that is pretty much nonexistent.

    Make sense?

You've obviously been doing this much longer than I have. Have you seen or heard of anyone being prosocuted for operating a handheld outside the approved wattage range?

Hell tell people they're too powerful to be legal and they'd sell millions. That's how folks are

Absolutely agree, hopefully this doesn't come off wrong but it's a major reason I dislike meeting up with these groups. Good comms is a huge factor for me, proven after the roll over in Moab this past year.

Don't know of any case off the top of my head for legal issues on GMRS/FRS but do know it occurs in the HAM bands. They (HAMs) also will help the FCC prosecute as well though.

I've had similar experiences and frustrations. Having to stop every 5 feet and get out to talk for 20minutes, especially in our Sumner heat, is bullshit. I'll have my CB fixed by Gulches but the problem persists that many if not most won't. That's what led me to the Baofeng idea.

If for example we agreed that it would be the primary mode of communication and put an Amazon link on the OP I think chances of people showing up with them are pretty good. Even if they had to be instructed on how to program a channel on arrival. Not to mention those of us that own several will have loaners. It is still the best solution to a complicated problem I can come up with.

    I'm open to suggestions though.

Fwiw I'm in charge of exactly nothing so my opinion means precisely that. I just like to head off problems before they occur

I need a trasharoo. I had an old molle pack rigged onto my 33. It won't fit over the 37
