OP, is it the stock skid plate or the aluminum one that is pretty obvious? Reason I ask is one is more for looks and the other actually serves a function.

I always check for damage/missing parts. You shouldn't have to but it happens pretty often. I've found loose air box clips, finger tight skid plate bolts, ruined lug nuts and a half assed inner fender install.

Most annoying was the lug nuts because the tire shop wouldn't own up to it. They clearly used the wrong size socket and went to town with the impact. The 10+ times prior that I had them on and off I never harmed anything.

I have beer... I don't have a skid plate. How would this work exactly? Do I give you a skid plate and get beer in return? How exactly does this help OP again?

Quote: Hopefully the dealership does have the plate. I come from low cars so having a truck sit up so high, I can see how easily it can be a pick and pull for thieves.

I have the oil changed by an "indy" who lets me check the underside of my truck while it is on the rack. My question is who would steal the POS skid plate? Wouldn't it fit only the '16 model? My '12 Tundra's skid plate was twice as heavy and much stronger made than the Tacoma's. I asked the mechanic if we should just leave it off and he said "probably not...it is good for stopping leaves and pieces of paper on the road from getting into the engine compartment. Other than that...not much good.":yay:

Quote: How does one go a week and not notice a relatively important part is not affixed to your truck anymore? I got my tires changed today and I gave the truck a walkaround to make sure there were 6 lugs on each wheel, centercaps were there, no obvious damage to the body, etc - it is just a good habit to have.

I do a walk-around probably once a day to check out my truck..i.e...tires, dings (never park near another vehicle if possible), make sure no bugs are on the windshield or front (wipe them off immediately)...and make sure the tail gate is locked (hopefully keep it from being stolen). I will admit I am anal about my truck and my neighbors think I am ******* nuts (they might have a point!). Example: I don't put my truck in the garage and leave it wet if it is raining. I might wait a little but but it will be wiped dry shortly. Why? Parking a wet truck in a garage will damage the ceiling in due time as the water has to evaporate somewhere and I don't like water spots. I say all this (uninteresting sh!t) to note that I don't crawl under my truck daily or even weekly so if my skid plate was stolen, I probably would know it unless I hit a dog or cat and they didn't fly out the back.

I was going to say that unless you live in Sri Lanka, there is plenty of room in the air for the amount of water on your truck and it will never make water spots, but S. Bama is close enough in the summer, lol. Anywhere else and you'd have no issues.

Go to manager have them pull video footage. Simple
Before everyone gets whatever . There are camera everywhere . Maybe not where they did the work but , enter and leaving would do. A skid plate is obvious.

So it's been 2 days since OP, and likely more since he noticed the missing skid plate. Was the dealer ever contacted? Did the neighbor just happen to borrow it? Was it found by the local sheriff in the middle of the highway?

I called dealer and they looked up service record and said skid plate was not removed during service. They said my model comes from factory with one so it was probably stolen.....they said come by dealership and they will give me deal on new one.
