What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Lucky, where'd you find someone that would do that?

 

A guy I went to school with didn't have shocks under the back of his 1500 because of mounting issues, he drove without shocks for at least 3 months without issue.

 

Off topic but is that a custom rear bumper? Looks sharp.

 

A friend drives a forklift for a living. That is the warehouse he works at.

That's pretty cool, I've never seen another bumper like the one The RedHead and now The Guac has, I originally figured it was a one off or something.

 

Badland has been around for quite a while actually. I've been hearing about then working mostly on Toyotas since '99 or '00. His place is on a couple acre parcel with his house and a big 'ol shop in it. Jeff is a bit eccentric but a decent sort. Tho I think its now his son who is doing most of the fabbing.

 

Yea, whenever I was looking at bumpers originally in like....2009..badlands was one of the few that offered prefabbed ready to ship.

 

99 4runner seat swap. Had to weld up some bracket extensions to make the mount locations work. Next time I'm at the junkyard I'll bring a 20v grinder and grab some 2000+ 4runner sliders to get the thing back to stock-ish. Seat rocks! has wing width adjust and lumbar adjust.

 

No spacer needed. Getting tires put on them today to check for upper control arm clearance.

 

That's why I recomended 8-8.5". That's what most shocks are that are for "lifted" applications. 5100s, OME are 9.1, foxes are 8 and 8.5.

But yea. I know. You have to meassure. Thats what I told him..but if he doesn't want too..go for 8-8.5.

 

Any particular reason you mounted the shocks that way? I've always been told to face the shaft down, so that dirt, debris, and water doesn't get pushed down into the body and stay there. Even if debris gets inside, it can eventually get pushed back out.

 

I figured that's the way they go since the emblem and it has the covers which aren't enclosed and let debris and water get out and also I figured if I am going to be going through water crossings I wouldn't want to fully submerge the shaft and everything! Makes more sense to me this way than the other!

 

They would get fully submerged mounted either way if you go deep enough.

 

just toss the boots in the trash and all those problems go away.
