its NOT absurd... its an actual fact.

Most modern transmissions offer a couple different "modes/maps" of operations (do not think ect mode, its not that).Toyota engineers, program the transmission shift patterns into x amount of files called shift maps. These shift maps determine if the transmission shifting is agressive, gentle, or somewhere in between. But, since the transmission doesn't have an ai, that determines shift maps. What the trans does is, during the first 1k miles, it learns your specific driving style and matches it with the closest preprogrammed shift map. You can always change it, through a transmission reset so your not stuck with that one map.

I know! but due to the underpowered engine the transmission is forced to shift out of overdrive while on cruise control.

What can they do? Make it stay in 5 and 6 gear and have it stall going up a hill? What do you expect will fix this? Maybe you will be special and they will give you a 6.9 v8 in place of the 3.5

no, thats not how it works. The engine has plenty of power, its the computer thinking it needs to downshift to gain speed after dropping.

Who uses cruise control? Just rip that thing off and throw it out the window. Maybe that will reset the transmission. TBH I think the 4 cylinder seems to work better with this tranny. You don't notice the shifting because there's no power.

No you're not. Its definitely a common complaint. And one of the many reason I didnt buy the 3rd gen after 2 weekend test drives. But complaining about it on here wont get you anywhere.

PLEASE TELL TOYOTA HOW THEY CAN FIX IT FOR YOU.
PLEASE TELL US HOW TOYOTA CAN FIX IT FOR YOU

I really want to know what you think the solution is to this 'problem'. You continue to say the engine is under powered. You are not offering a solution

there actually is a fix to it. create a new shift map. Why Toyota hasnt done it yet I dont know. Probably something to do with estimated mpg or something.

Have you called Toyota and asked for your money back? That's a good way to start the process

Eric I'm not here to argue with you or come up with solutions, I'm just stating what my truck is doing. I was hoping that someone can tell if there is reprogramming available for the erratic shifting, that's all..

I have a hard time believing fuel economy is really important to people. First red flag, they want a truck to daily drive, Next they buy the biggest and least efficient variation. Finally they complain that it isn't effecient.

You want an efficient truck? No you don't. Toyota stopped making it because no one cared (5 lug).

I HATE cruise control on automatics... My 2nd gen does the same thing. I'll only use cruise on completely flat roads or with manual transmissions

They could start by offering a new engine and trans tune. This is the exact same engine that is in the Lexus. The only difference is the tune. The tacoma is 276hp, but you can run low grade gas. The Lexus is 311hp but you have to run premium. That would be the fix. Hell, all these people keep compairing it to the chevy. Look at the difference! HP and torque!!!!!!
