In case anyone's interested, Google launched their own public DNS resolvers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). Lots of users saying it's giving a noticeable performance improvement over their stock ISP's DNS servers. Info on how to change your DNS server. Ideally you'd wanna change it on your router.

I'm bout to try it myself...also it supposedly won't reroute you to a god awful page full of ads if you mistype an address, like most ISPs do.

Don't expect great things. My comcast DNS smoked it on 5 runs. here's one of the results using a batch file where I tried OpenDNS, my default Comcast setting, and Google. This was the biggest difference, but on average Google would be around 25ns.

also need to remember its going to matter on where you are.. its like using speed test and trying to ping some one in FL when you are in AK.. its going to be slower.

im going to try this now..

    EDIT:
    thats a bit better..

I'm not sure what your speedtest result is trying to tell us...

Not true. It depends on the network infrastructure in place, such as how many hops it takes and how good the equipment is for resolving a route. I'll ping Boise at a slower rate than Fort Worth.
