    Wheel Info Needed:

Just finished up my "mid-travel" install (pics will come later)
    • Icon Billet UCA
    • Donahoe (old Icon) ext-travel coilovers
    • TC Spindle Gussets (with Swaybar)
    • TC Cam Gussets
    • TC Coil Bucket Gussets
    • DMZ Motor Mount Gussets
    • All-Pro Expo Springs
    • Donahoe Remote Resi Rear Shocks
    • All-Pro Flip Kit
    • Wheeler Super Bumps Front / Rear
Looking at wheels now, leaning toward 16x8 methods (Either NV or double standard) with 0MM offset and 4.5" of backspacing and 285/75r16 BFG AT2's. Would this set up clear my spindle gussets? I've searched like crazy and can't find a thing.

Ditch the sway bar and get some SCS wheels

Also, back spacing determines offset and vise versa, if we are talking about a wheel with the same width.

I'm pretty sure thats 4.5" is the back spacing recommends for 285/75/16. I'm not a second gen expert though.

X2 on scs wheels, but the spindle gussets with sway bar mounts are a bit beefier than the ones with out, I'll be going with them. I think that's what he meant though about the gussets.

I have SCS F5's with 4.5" bs 0 offset and 285's and there is plenty of room, don't think having the gusset on will effect it.

Actually. I have seen a lot of people using it in their shock builds without problems. Check out the RaceDeZert forums and you'll see all the different people talking about it. Here's one thread alone. Just don't mix it with other oils obviously.

I read some of those and it raises more questions.

Back in the early 90s when I was in HS we would run ATF through carbureted vehicles to clean carbon from the valves and piston tops. It would make a lot of smoke but in the end we could see a difference. The way it was explained was that ATF has a detergent in it and would eat up the carbon. My 1st reaction to the post above was solely based on thinking that ATF would eat the rubber seals in no time.
After Jason said get oil based on the tuning is why I waited to talk to King. At the end of the day I went with Kings synthetic 5wt oil. I purchased a gallon and will keep it until I rebuild my fronts in 20k. Just played it safe and went with what the tech that helped me build the shim stacks said.

Personally I'd rather use other fluid as well, but in case I was ever in a bind, I would not mind using it as a back up. Then again since you mention rubber seals, the seals on these shocks are not just cheap rubber that can degrade from this stuff. Most of the time the seals are made of Buna-N (Nitrile) and according to this chart, they have great resistance wear to ATF.

    http://www.efunda.com/designstandards/oring/oring_chemical.cfm?SM=none&SC=Automatic Transmission Fluid

Scroll down on the list to which notes "Automatic Transmission Fluid" and you will see that both Nitrile rubber (which is Buna) and Viton (which is also used in shock seals sometimes as a substitute to Buna) both have a satisfactory rating for wear when it comes to handling the fluid.

    http://mykin.com/rubber-chemical-resistance-chart

Should you use it? Not if there is a higher temperature rating fluid alternative available, which in these cases most of the time there probably is, but can you use it? According to these charts, and many go aheads from many people before this conversation, they all indicate that it is safe to do so. Without negative repercussions and early wear to the seals.

Currently have the sway bar hooked up, but might ditch it. Went with the "sway-bar retained" TC gussets because they are beefier / stronger then the non-sway bar version (atleast from Total Chaos)

Are your's 16x8? Do you have any pics of your spindle clearance?

I haven't seen any discussion on this, so thought I would share. King has options to reduce the extended and collapsed lengths on their shocks by selecting a "welded lower end" as well as the "Over the cylinder top cap" (for up to 12" stroke), allowing reduction 1.75" off of the standard lengths. Welded lower is zero additional cost, over cylinder top cap adds $35 per shock. The 12" RRs that I ordered come standard as 32.65"/20.65", with the above options they were reduced to 30.9"/18.9". This will allow me to stuff these into a space where they normally would not fit and rob me of up travel. Just another option for consideration when measuring for shocks. Also the valving that I ended up with.

15/12 with a flutter stack and 1 of 3 holes plugged. That is way different over my valving. Curious as to how this feels in a runner

I am as well, spent an hour talking with Filthy Motorsports and that is what we came up with. What are yours valved to?

My rears on the compression side start with 10 and have the flutter after the 1st shim. The last 3 are 12 and I have 1 bleed hole plugged and 2 open. The rebound is a 10 stack.

So basically valved a bit stiff on both rebound and compression. I would guess that my Runner's ass is a bit heavier than yours which would make sense for the stiffer valving.

I carry about 200lbs at all time between my rack, full spare and hilift. My leafs are Expo as it is already and ride like shit without that weight back there at all times. When I worked with King I told them that I would be adding a topper and armor and this was still the suggestion. So I guess I'll find out in 2 weeks how it feels.

I stopped by Avid this week and they were doing an install of King 2.5s on all 4, TC uppers and Icon coils in the rear of a 2016 Trail Ed runner. I didn't stick around to see the final product but I know the customer went CDC vs custom valving.
As a 4 runner guy, is Icon the only option for lift coil springs?

I run All Pro 3.5 springs, and I know Metaltech and Toytec have options as well as OME.

Lots of options for springs, I am running the MetalTech ones which are dual rate much longer free height spring (19.25") compared to most. A 12" shock will not work with any other non-custom springs that I am aware of, the springs will fall out of the buckets. They are a 300/100 lb/in spring.
