Should I get these headlight bulbs?

These are fairly new but they look like a rebranded Philips LED H4 bulbs you can buy on xenondepot for much more. My wallet and i like these more. Have bought some other LED bulbs from this vendor and they are good quality. This design seems to incorporate two things I like more than other LED H4 bulbs, a cutoff for the beams that prevents light dispersion and removable heatsink for easier installation with our socket covers. May do it and see how it compares to jumpers LED headlight bulbs. I saw a comparison of Philips and Cree LEDs somewhere and I was impressed.

I wouldn't personally. Alot of people are having issues with the cheaper LED headlights. I would recommend Phillips or Piaa as they're very reputable lighting manufactures.

 

I ordered one from Amazon, check out Optz7 LED they have good reviews.

 

Blackout668 did you already install the opt7 headlight bulbs already?

 

I would stay away from those bulbs. While they may produce good light output (because it appears it has the proper shielding like a halogen bulb) the weather boot around the base of the bulb will not fit on those LED's. This will leave a large area at the back of your headlight housing exposed to the elements.

 

But what if I was to seal the gap up with some insulation tape will that affect anything?

 

In theory yes, that is possible. Something else to consider is that the clips that hold the OEM bulbs in will not work with these LED's. That's another component that must be sort of jimmy rigged. When I had my VLED LMZ LED bulbs the clips were just kind of wedged in there. When I went on very bumpy roads the bulbs definitely jiggled up and down.

I have the Philips LEDs, and these don't look anything like them. The Philips fit well, and put the light where it's supposed to be.

 

What PVT Pablo says about the boot is true! I've looked for boots not much besides oem. I was thinking about the optz and LEDs or even hids, but cutting the boot to leave the back unsealed?
On the other hand I've found the jdm astar to be very good LEDs, also I've been pleased with their products in general have a few parts from them on my ride.
I have them in my tail lights, they don't make the truck do funky stuff like some of the others do!
I've been running them for a few years now.

 

Pvt Pablo do you think that if I sealed it, it would affect the airflow?

 

I used my oem rubber boot cover entire bulb and the heat sink no water problem.

 

Airflow isn't a concern. The OEM setup is 'sealed' anyway.

This was something I could not do with the VLED setup. While I could get the boot over the bulb, I couldn't get the bulb, boot, and clip to all be where they were supposed to be together.

Opt7 the heat sink is smaller and supposedly works better to cool off the light. I place the rubber boot to cover the entire units with no water issues that my concern. I have HIDs before the water keep going into my headlights lens. On Airflow concern, the small hole in the middle of the boots it enough to let the heat sink do their job. No issues so far. I wash my truck a lot in the winter especially undercarriage. Don't want any water problem.

i ordered a set off ebay for $50. they work great. the brights dont shine higher like regular headlights but the white light makes everything more visible.

 

I looking the white signal and parking lights sets. Anyone have any pictures or brands that they recommend that match with my OPT7 white headlights.

 

Philips H4's have surpassed all of my expectations up to this point. I enjoy running them very much and very much enjoy the reduced eye strain/ fatigue.

The last statement on your post is actually not true. I have owned 4 to 5 different LED bulbs thus far and ran them all in this truck, all different sizes and shapes and while you may not think that the weather boot will not, the fact of the matter is that they will no matter what. Some will be tighter fits than others but the boots will not have a problem fitting over these.

While the clips can be a factor for mounting the bulbs, fact of the matter is that even I had to modify my clips and tweak them some in order for them to apply greater tension on my Philips H4's in order to keep them from wiggling around in the housing. When replacing stock for aftermarket LED's people should expect having to tweak the clips some in the first place simply because their design may be thinner or have the base machined/ designed a little differently than stock. If you don't have to than that is just one less thing to worry about.

 

How are you fitting the retention clip and weather boot over the LED bulbs? There is no physical way that the retention clip can be used as designed with most of these LED bulbs, especially the ones with the large fans on the back.
