Hah yeah I originally had a 2011....it also included the tow package  just like my 2016. I guess I should stop and unsub before this goes too far. I do need to get to bed though since I get up early for work.

If you took your Jetta somewhere to get a connector installed and it looked like what you explained, why didn't you ask them to correct the install and actually hide or have the wires managed property? Once again, your mistake. I wouldn't have had it looking like that for 15 years if it looked like crap.

You had 15 years to fix the problem and didn't do anything about it?

The factory plug available at Toyota that goes in the bumper has no terminals on the back of course. It is just another receptacle for the plug from the "other" factory wiring harness. My point is this connector should be standard on all trucks, as trucks are made for towing, even 4 cylinders.

In all seriousness OP, you can get a hitch and connector for your lights installed aftermarket for faily cheap. It can look nice as well and not have wires hanging all over the place. Hell the connector is just four wires that just powers lights on a triler. It's not that difficult for an installer to do. Just do a little research on the businesses around your area and it can be done and done properly. Just check it out before you leave this time.

So. You chose to believe a salesman and let your impatience override waiting for the vehicle you actually ordered to be delivered. While this doesn't address the design issue you are speaking of, it does define why you feel have a problem. YOU made the wrong choice. Look in the mirror for the guy to be frustrated with.

I installed my Curt Hitch, my Curt wiring setup and my Curt flat pin mount, by my lonesome, in about 3 hours, with stops for lunch and Cokes. Not a big deal. Nothing 'hanging down', nothing ghetto looking. In fact, quite factory looking. Maybe better.

It doesn't void your warranty, as several here have mentioned.

Asking where you get the power from shows your lack of understanding of basic systems. There is no unique power source for this application.

It should be noted I just have a poor mans 5 lug 2.7 auto. No tow package was available on this version. Plus I bought it used, so it's not like I didn't get what I ordered. Just didn't have it. I don't tow much, but what I do tow works fine, and the lights work fine. It should also be noted I've installed these types of wiring setups on a couple dozen of my vehicles over the years, never a failure, never a corrosion issue. You just have to use a little care.

As I promised earlier, here's your 1/4# of stale cheddar. The whine is getting old and sour, so the cheese doesn't need to be the best.

Congratulations on qualifying for my ignore list! 1st for this month!

Good luck in solving your 'problem'!

A high quality adapter will draw power from the battery, so as not to draw too many amps over the factory tail and brake light wires.

I was just thinking the same thing while I was taking my dogs out. People these days are so self centered and only care about themselves while being some of the most impatient people I've ever dealt with. I've noticed that's it's younger people, even though I'm going in 27 so still young, but they don't want to admit that they are at fault. OP was at fault for accepting the wrong truck and being too impatient to not wait or go to another dealer for the correct truck. I work in IT and deal with a shitload of impatient assholes that love to put the blame on someone else when it's their fault, OP. Man up to your mistake, use it as a learning experience and deal with it. Life it hard and trust me, this is minor compared to a lot of things that happen. It can easily be fixed and resolved with some basic research. If you had come up here and just said you made a mistake and need some help getting a connector installed, you would have gotten a lot of great help from these guys. There are some really smart people up here who love to help others out.

A little bit of searching and some simple electrical maths will show if that would be a problem or not. Not aure if it would in this application, just some food for thought.

But it's not. So, what are you going to do in the meantime? We can't change the wind, but we can adjust our sails.

Maybe we should all go over to the Colorado forum, complain about ordering the wrong truck, get some decent buthurt and then come back and talk about it.

Nope. You have too clean a build and too much common sense. I started reading a bunch of your stuff over a year ago, and thought at least here is one guy with a thoughtful approach to his mods, not just following the lemmings.

Agreed, but where were you about 3 pages ago when the OPs bitthurt was off the charts? I feel like you could have voiced some of your reason back then.

Those people must be upset because they ordered the wrong truck too. Then wired up a harness and went back to their trailer park. It a sad sad bitter bitter world we live in when Toyota cant predict every opertunity for stupidity. Shame on them.
