What sad times are these when passing ruffians can say "Ni" to old ladies.

Should have been locked when we all became "Trailer park" modders. No offence to people who actually live in one, its just it was used in a derogatory mannor.

There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.

It is a GOOD shrubbery. I like the Laurels in particular.

The OP is gonna be really pissed at all of you when he gets out of his tire changing class and reads these posts! The class is frustrating enough with those damn lug nut things Toyota uses on the wheels and now all of your posts on top of it.

Well naturally. Removing your lug nuts with velvet gloves is hard, since hard nasty dirty tools will scratch them up . The truck is brand new for the love of god! Cant risk a scratched lug nut.

Are we allowed to remove our own lug nuts, or does that void the warranty?

    Option 1
Every part on a toyota has a part number. Go sit at a dealer parts counter and have them list every part that belongs on your truck for a factory installation. Some where there is a factory connection point to plug this all in. Then take your list to your dealer and force the issue. If they stone wall you then you know what you need to order and what it will cost.
    Option 2
A proper aftermarket 4 pin trailer wiring kit unplugs the the tail lights and plugs in a coupling converter. No splicing. You will have to mount the converter box (usually can securely zip tie this in place) and bolt a wire to ground. You can usually find near by an existing bolt to ground to.
    Option 3
7 pin connector once you have a flat 4 connector you can buy a 4/ 7 pin socket. Buy the right socket you get both the 4 and 7 pin socket. It plugs into your new existing 4 pin plug and you need to run a ground wire. You can go to an existing bolt. Then you will need to run a power wire to the battery with a fuse as close to the battery as you can get. For the brake controller wire leave it off and go with a wireless controller. Wireless Brake unit mounts to the trailer. Wireless connection unit plugs into the 12 volt power socket on the dash. This controller is expensive but works well and is great if you have multiple cars/trucks towing the same trailer.
doing it this way doesnt modify anything Toyota but only adds to it. You can get option 2&3 from e-trailer.
nothing about this is going to be cheep.

I find the reference to trailer park residents a very offensive, most of these people can get stuff done that the winers cant. They may not have the oppertunities that people who can afford a $30,000 truck have but they are human beings for the most part doing the best they can with the cards dealt them.

A 3rd gen without the tow package is still a 3rd gen. It doesn't make it better. :D

I kind of get OP's frustration.

I don't know if this was brought up but Curt sells a plug and play trail wiring kit for $82 and the part number is the same for a 2011 as a 2015 so I can't see any changes for a 2016 if that's what the OP has...... the's Curt kits are very easy to install I have used them twice once on a town and country and once on a Honda Odyssey

Hey OP, I am in the same boat as you having a 2016 2wd 4cyl

Curt MFG offers a hitch right now but they are still working on a plug and play harness. Rep I spoke with said they are having trouble sourcing the required plastic connector BUT should have these ready to ship late March
