No sweat bro. My main point is no matter how much proof, scientific or otherwise that I would bring to the table, it will not sway or change anyone that is not willing to dive deep and find out for themselves.....then again, it's all up to the heart in each of us to decide what we want......and...uh....no slapping going on around here, we're one big happy family ya know.;):D

I'm genuinely trying understand you and your point of view by asking a few questions and in turn explaining my point of view. That's too much? I'm scratching my head at your sarcastic one-line responses to my lengthy and, in my view, fairly thoughtful argument.

This is the 2nd time you've done that- it tells me much more than I think you wanted it to. I'm beginning to think it's generally the best argument from 'your side' anyway- just stick to the emoticons!

I tried, and it's your subject.

Dont count on it. I made my case.
If it was senseless then I apologize for wasting my time.

i want to believe. and i am trying to believe. because honestly i dont want to just stop thinking when my brain stops. i want to keep the connections with people i like and not get to a point where i realize that i probably won't ever say a word to them again. mostly my parents.

but realistically.. i wont lie religion seems like all the different versions are just there to morally keep people in line. so that there is always a greater power that can punish when something is wrong, or someone doesnt get they're way. the more i think about, the more it just seems like we can only process this stuff because were at the top of the food chain.

mammals lower than us are just the same things but less fortunate. brains, intestines, birth, etc. we have everything they have but just more. aka evolution.

but in the end i still try to believe for myself and because both my parents do. i tell them how i feel and they stopped getting mad and are just accepting it. but it seems like when u get to a certain age u want to believe there is life after death so you will be able to have a conversation with your deceased loved ones again.

Catholic. Because they are lying, and I am telling the truth. :D

In all seriousness, I have a problem with people who think their life is controlled and already planned by god.

dunkhi, I totally understand. I would love to believe as well. But I just cant. And it seems totally contrary to the amazing ability we have - to be alive. I feel so rich and robust even when in pain or in a bad situation- its so awesome to know were alive. But no matter what, at the end of the day and the end of it all, we were alive and nobody has brought evidence back from after death. Sure some folks die and are revived a bit later, but thats not the same. Were not about to revive Einstein or Lincoln or Ghandi.

Maybe its comforting to know these pages we write to each other may stay up and readable way after our death- and our "real death" is when nobody remembers us and when our words have been deleted, and the photos of us have been destroyed or deleted. THAT will take a lot longer, and our kin will remember us in photos, stories and how we treated people and animals and the situations we created, the scounderals we were or the philanthropists we became.

    Just a thought.

I was brought up catholic. But once i was old enough to start making my own decisions i changed my feelings about what i believed in.

i am agnostic. i believe that there is a god, or many gods for that matter. it is good to have something to believe in(omg thats a poison song)but whose to say that who you believe in is right or wrong. i believe that there are many forces guiding my way through life(almost like the indians believe). i dont think that any one being can be(or should be) in control of my destiny. Just think....if i were alive a 2010 years ago and presented myself in some holier than thow way, i may be the one being worshipped right now by some religion whose members are for the most part hipocrites.

remember, opinions are like assholes......everybody has one.

I'm the exact opposite as you. :p

I'm agnostic as well, but I don't believe in anything. Nothing is known and it can never be proved.

I make my own choices and nothing controls that. Nothing is guiding me but myself.

Excellent thought! Which leads me to want to write words on this thread I may have not written because I try to stay politically correct most the time and not force my beliefs on anyone. Here are my words........

I'm not afraid to die because my God has shown me His presence in my life. He has given me the gift of everlasting life through the sacrifice of his Son Jesus Christ. I find comfort in Him when I'm in need, He gives me the Holy Spirit within to guide me through my walk. Thank you Jesus.

I respect your feelings on this matter derek, but with all due respect, I'm just curious what you think happens to you when you die. Not being a smarty or anything, just curious about your beliefs is all.

Everyone has their own thoughts and beliefs and I respect that! No judging here. I'm a loving person. We're all just humans on this earth trying to survive. :D

What do I think happens when we die? That's it. It's over. I think it's kind of like sleep. You just never wake up. It's hard to explain what I'm trying to say.

Like think about when you sleep and what it's like. Other than dreams, you can't really think about it. I think that's kind of like being dead. If that makes sense...

That didn't even make sense to me. DAMN IT!!!!!

I know what I'm trying to say, but I can't find a way to put it into words.

ya all know how u feel. and no body can interpret it.

it's weird to think that our existence came to part when our parents decided to have a kid. and we all existed by luck. like winning the lottery. but our parents wouldnt have been here without their parents. the chances exponential grow : O so massive! and to think that i have no recollection of what happened before my brain developed. and once i die will it just be blank. everything stops. but what am i thinking now? will i think this when i die?!? omg..

and also thought of how scientifically small we are. like our body mass is like .00000000000000000001% of the earth. and our earth is like .000000000000000000001% of our galaxy. that revolves around our sun which is so big taht we could fit almost 1 million earths in the sun. but our sun is smaller compared to other stars. and there are millions of stars in our solar system. and thousands of solar systems in our galaxy. and trillions of galaxies in our universe that is growing to infinity. but could collapse in on it self? it just doesnt make sense.

(dont quote me on my figures)
