I suppose you're right. I looked back a page and saw your suspension upgrade. But what happened with the CV manufacturer?

Why do people tie string from the roof rack to the front of the rig? I've noticed this on multiple trucks and never understood. I'm sure there is a reason haha.

Nice truck BTW. Never seen such a sick Frontier.

they do it so if you run into a branch it follows the line over the hood, past the windshield, and over the hood.

Thanks for the info. Are you asking if I have a Tacoma? I sold mine this month and bought a 4Runner. I've spent so much time on this site thought that I don't really want to leave. I decided just to start a build page for the runner on here.

Photo dump... (let's see how long it takes for photobucket to crash)

This took me about 5 weekends, and a few nights after work. The bulk of what you see was done from 6pm this Friday to 9pm Sunday.

I used 2.0 x 2.0 Fox Hydro bump stops that came in a kit with the cans. I also purchased double sheer 4130 strap tabs, the clevis kit with sleeves. I ended up boxing the sleeves and the cans all with 3/16" steel. The cans also got four 1/8" gussets per side.

A few weeks ago I cut some bash plates from 1/4" steel plate, and welded some double sheer 4130 limit strap tabs. The bash plates are fully perimeter welded to the Titan LCA, along with two boxing plates that are welded to the side of the LCA. I welded the bash plates first so they are even fully welded behind the lower plates, and they have 9 rosette welds that also hold those suckers on.. Actually there are 10 because I welded through the bolt hole in the LCA for the stock bump stop.. Same for the strap tabs, 3 rosette welds from the bottom of the bash plates, and a full bead all the way around.

    image_zpsezgiutev_12f13a326c33cfeaecc17bbfb9ed5df1738c0bc5.jpg

Starting Friday night I had to find the max droop, and max stuff..

    IMG_2482_zpsmbc5olxm_0fb4ae7ecbb89d763929efeb9f361495bb7e4685.jpg

This is where the tire sits without the shock, basically in this pic its touching the fender liners

    IMG_2490_zpshja0obhn_0ae1752745682c61f5f8ea6016a63b2cda38db10.jpg

Here is the actual full stuff when the shock bottoms out

    IMG_2496_zpsnlsnb06f_05d51d93bda5b1688ef3bd6093381a276324da47.jpg

After checking all of that I was ready to start. I was going to weld the clevis tabs straight to the frame, but a little extra strength never hurt anyone. So I made a plate to weld to the frame and fully boxed the clevis sleeves.

    IMG_2908_zpseww6tixr_fd18ebaa326cbe133751e5a4df9d1b16aa0b606d.jpg

All welded up! The bottom tab is at a bit of an angle because I was originally going to mount the clevis next to the cans, but I was worried about chafing so I moved the clevis. If the tab bends, I'll cut it off and weld a new on at the correct angle.

    IMG_3420_zpserde6fyu_d46ee058f4ab1d6c1e80a45df4276decf71bc9b9.jpg

Some cold galv makes my ugly welds look a lot better :D

    IMG_3422_zpspooblw9y_7db01b1a154fe27bc18cbc0d5b5d11fd173011ea.jpg

I used some 2" ID tube that we use to ship brake lines at work to mock the bump cans. It's almost the exact OD as the can, and I cut it to the fully compressed length of the bump when it is bolted in the can.. Don't worry, I took it out of the trash, so its not stolen :p

    IMG_3475_zpskhcxr4hv_75864b97c10fb4fd38961eac47fae82de135ca8e.jpg

I decided to straddle the coil bucket like the stock bump stop horn. This way the coil bucket becomes part of the load bearing structure once the upper plate is welded to both sides.

    IMG_3476_zps1aaurtzb_0353fb847a8a26bd151ce715759cffd3a78af56f.jpg

Made my templates for the top and bottom plates!

    IMG_3489_zpswhne9zjz_e14a65fb1096b9afe6004fe006de01215113e6c4.jpg

Traced everything on to some flat stock, in duplicate. Notice the 8 gussets too, figured why not? This pretty much wrapped up Friday night!

    IMG_3611_zpsuuplm5ez_074852ad51b37752ffc0885f9a4d66458f6ca026.jpg

Saturday morning I was out throwing sparks! Cut all my plates and ready to weld!

    IMG_3626_zpshfdcimqb_c4ed49ee759917f181c63fdd244dff933e61df51.jpg

Mocking it up and leveling it...

    IMG_3641_zps9nuhfryb_57caea5c81740955da924e98b1796d988aa1ba3f.jpg

A nice fat stitched weld for the cans, so pretty when you can get a good angle!

    IMG_3652_zpslt6iaelx_a2d9f4bf1bed56edc3a2555fbeb940693be53575.jpg

All four corners got a straight line pull... See the notch for the coil bucket???

    IMG_3645_zpsn7namad9_99d75fff1a8e5189e32e77b7d97d9fff6f3e1ed0.jpg

    Gusseted!

    IMG_3653_zpsnopptey2_f98274ace5ffeff64e36017b92bd0cd33cbf0cda.jpg

This is the back side, with the bottom up. I had to hammer the right corner down to follow the contours of the frame.

    IMG_3654_zpslcdrerxt_f6a3427211729b6f6e15b666d4e40bf0cd8ca083.jpg

Passenger's side was up first! After I was done I critiqued my welds, good enough, but not the best by far. Did some trouble shooting and had to dial up the gas a little as my bottle was getting low, and then replaced the tip cause it was getting all oxidized. Driver's side came out much better :)

    IMG_3661_zpsqeh8uvs8_0fa7c0e320c6d493d1777d643ebe4823ada12117.jpg

    IMG_3743_zps5cgvwetr_608fa02ff507ee41871008df540fe6fef8d31719.jpg

I started welding the driver's side and got about 95% of the welds done, just had one more gusset and the little stretch under it to finish. But go figure, I ran out of gas. So I called it a night at 8pm Saturday. Didn't even take a lunch break or anything...

Sunday morning I started cleaning up and stripping the plastidip off my wheels in preparation for some new shoes tomorrow! Then around 3pm some friends swung by with a rescue cylinder of Co2! 10 minutes and the welding was wrapped up! Thanks @kh7nm , @tx novice , and @luka !

    IMG_3744_zpsrnq88hig_84ce6edb37695883d88ab224f4f83bc5e6347ceb.jpg

And that's the last of it! All done and ready for a test drive next weekend! Then I have some leaf springs to install, along with a ubolt flip kit and a few other goodies :p

    IMG_3753_zpsyqwtwyxl_e0fdc0ae475880a39b609ab20af66e3bce1c703e.jpg

The keen observer will notice that I relocated the brake line bracket. Doing so freed up so much space! Otherwise the bump stop would have been mounted an inch lower, at an angle to get the correct travel, and probably not boxed in since you wouldn't be able to fit the MIG gun in there.
