Also.. Got my charger in today..

Anyone know if I can cut the DC alligator clips off and solder on a 12v plug for the truck? Or does it draw more than that.. Didnt realize tjey were clips and not a cig adapter.. :(

Manual says its 11-15VDC, so as long as its an input, I can't see what it would hurt.

    Also from the manual:

    DC Input:
This charger can be powered by a portable 12V DC power source for use at the track. On the left side of the
charger, connect the DC power cord’s alligator clips directly to the output terminals on the 12V DC power source. Always
match polarities (red lead to red “+” terminal, black lead to black “-“ terminal). To utilize the charger’s absolute maximum
power capabilities the DC power source must be capable of delivering at least 12 amps while maintaining 12 volts DC

The voltage is fine but I don't know what the wattage draw is. I'm guessing 50 to 120 Watts, which will be fine for the cigarette lighter

Thanks guys.. I'll dive more into into it today, but I think it will be fine and I might give it a go.

Didnt have time today... as I killed the slash.. again.. lol This time I JUMPED it into a boulder. broke a front lower arm, C hub, and bent a shock. I also didnt know what I was doing and only put ONE bearing in each of those brand new RPM rear carriers yesterday.. which.. lead to the demise of the carriers.. the rear cv ate away at the inside of the carrier and melted through it. lol

so.. i have some parts on order.. Slash is down for a couple weeks I think.

This is becoming a more addicting and expensive hobby than I thought it was. haha

I would run direct from the battery terminals. You would be adding resistance by running through a cig lighter/power port, with the added fuse and wire length, etc...which will cause the charger to be less efficient and possibly damage it.

thats what I was worried about.. choking it. really wanted the cig lighter for the convenience and on the go charging.. but I guess I could use the outlet in the bed.

that is where the efficiency is lost. Truck goes from 12 volts to 120 through the inverter, then it goes into your charger and is brought back down to 12 volts in whatever power supply is in there.

^^ truth. I have an inverter in my truck too, actually more amps than the 2nd gens come with. And it will not power my server supply to the charger without getting really hot. I go direct to the battery, no problems.

ok.. I honestly didnt even think about direct to battery. I was just thinking of driving out to a spot, while wheeling, etc and they could charge on the road.

direct will work though! appreciate it.

now its just getting used to my charger, playing with the setup, etc while I wait for parts to show up.. :pout:

I broke it like not even 5 hours after I had fixed it from the first run in.. lol

If I'm going flying, or bashing, I'll charge at home first and bring everything with me.
I usually only end up charging maybe one or two more. If I crash and burn, then it just became a discharge afternoon. :burp:

If anybody is looking for some cool scale accessories and stickers, this guy does some awesome stuff. I ordered a set of the license plates and they came out awesome. He also has the 1st and 2nd gen grille/light/emblem kits for the Honcho.

I made some links and lengthened my wheelbase. Had to convert the front to a 4-link setup, which I didn't plan on having to do, but the parts were in the bag that came with the truck. Anyway, how does this look? Too much?
