    Checklist New Truck
Picking up my new truck . TRD OFf ROAD
check list of what you should do, have, and get.

    1. bring check book, driver licence, current proof of insurance
    2. how many keys should I get (2 master proximity keys and 1 tail gate key)
    3. check glue under hood
    4. with tow package (U.S. : no ball hitch or plug will be included)(Canada gets one)
    5. Test drive with radio off (windows both up and down)
    6. no extended warranty? (research price if you want one, you can always get it later before the three years is up)
    7. If trading in vehicle: empty your crap out of vehicle, delete any garage opener codes stored, bring title, if you have a toll tag (remove it), get your old license plates.
    8. you should get 4 removable bed cleats
    9. have fluid levels and U joints checked
    10. tell salesman to not attach dealership badges or stickers on truck
    11. dealership should set up your phone and go over the entunes with you.
    12. if you plan to finance part of the truck, check with local credit unions on what rate you can get. Toyota will likely match the rate, but if you go in not knowing , then expect to play 2 +% higher
    13. give your insurance carrier a heads up. they should cover you automatically for 30 days, when you can, give them the VIN# so your covered.
    14. If you do not want a front licence plate holder let them know before delivery. I personally was ok with having dealer installing it.

(I'll try to update the list as people comment)

i've never bought an extended warranty on anything, but i also don't own cars very long. everything is negotiable so if you want the warranty don't take the first price offer
certainly don't get the gaff wax, croak and choke, or gap (unless you're financing the whole amount plus rolling in negative equity)

No valet key. Two keys only unless you get a TRD (auto only) or Limited that comes with the proximity key, then you should also get a separate tailgate key.

Please - extended test drive first. Stop & Go traffic, and highway speeds. Radio off. windows up and down. Make sure you are 100% ok with everything that you see & hear. Give the truck a full walkaround. If anything is incorrect/missing make them write you out a "We Owe" form - and whoever makes it out have them sign it & get their card or name/number.

Apparently have them check the transmission fluid levels if you're getting an AT truck - lot of stories of those coming off the truck underfilled.

Extended warranty is for others to debate.

Possible with the '15 you have, but not with '16s. Actually the first new vehicle I've purchased in a while that didn't have either a valet key or a surf key.

Don't forget about the key to the tailgate. Mine was inside the glove box.

OK...your new truck just arrived. Don't get excited yet; you have work to do before you drive it off the lot.

Have dealer check Universal Joints--some are coming out of the factory dry.
Have dealer check tightness of rear axle u-bolts--some coming out of the factory improperly tightened.
    Check glue on hood seal.
Check alignment of bed to cab--have dealer adjust if unacceptable.
Check that all packages/accessories ordered are in place.
Check that engine oil and transmission fluid (A/T) are full.
Read the above posts and check all the stuff mentioned in them.

Take the salesman on test drive with you before accepting vehicle.

Drive in town and at highway speeds, windows up and windows down. Make sure that salesman acknowledges any issues before you accept the vehicle.

Just because you ordered the vehicle does not mean that you have to accept it if there are issues with it.

The dealer will be much more likely to address any issues promptly if they are holding up finalizing the sale. Remember: The sale is final when you say it is.

The dealer's primary interest is getting the paperwork finished and getting the vehicle off of his lot.

Your primary interest is getting the truck you ordered in the condition that you ordered it in.

Ummm if your window sticker says tow package, then yes. You get a hitch, as well as the plugs integrated into the bumper by the plate.

Or are you confused between a hitch and receiver ? No, your truck will not come with a receiver mount.

Mine came with the 2" "thingy" with a ball on it and a locking pin to put into the receiver. It was in a box on the back seat like the mudflaps, floor mats, etc, etc.... YES... you should get one... I did..

If you order the All-Weather, rubber floormats, will they put your stock, fabric ones in the back seat?
Reason I ask is because I want to order them with my TRD Pro, but that model comes stock with custom embroidered floormats and I don't want some grease monkey walking off with them and selling them on eBay.

You are correct OP that is the ball mount. What is installed under your bumper is the receiver, hence it receives the ball mount.

This is a great thread. We all get excited to some degree and easily overlooked. I'm picking mine up in the morning.

    Thanks
