That's why I posted the link it goes over the how and when. And when not.

 

A variety of things. To summarize, my naivete, STS turbo kit, and a new tuning device without the proper tune. X-1, shortly after it came to market. I was surpassing its load table's resolution. They developed it with a 200% load table. With my turbo and built engine, my load would exeed that for a good amount of time. It couldn't properly account for that area. Secondly, timing was set to aggressively. This is all data found out after the fact. Properly tuning is what protects against things like this.

 

Did you do the tuning on your own or did you use a shop?

 

Is or true that toyota detuned the 4.0 so it wouldn't have to run premium? If so whats the proper tune and power gains? I run premium all the time anyways so if I could pick up some power with just a new tune that would be something to look into.

 

It came with a preloaded tune. I dabbled but cautiously and timidly.

 

Toyota tuned it to be able to survive in all sorts of climates and environments. A Jack of all trades tune. All on the conservative side. Including their understanding of the engine's OEM components' strengths.

 

I'm selling these Toytec coilovers if anyone is interested. They have 32k on them. I'll sell them for 325 to anyone local who might want them. I'm in severn.

If I was smarter I would have had mobtownoffroad weld me some brackets last weekend when I was there, but this works well to. Extremely sturdy.

 

So does that mean that it's wise not to try to mess with the stock tune lol

I went to Bass Pro Shop today. Parking was a mess but luckily i found a "Toyota 4x4 Only" spot! It's funny a lady in a maxima was following us while walking towards my truck and she asked my wife if we were leaving, my wife said "yea but that's us in that silver truck" Lady said "O my goodness!" and pulled off.

 

I approve did this at cracker barrel couple weeks ago
