Tire Balance Problem

I have a 2007 Tacoma, double cab, Sport. It has Bridgestone Dueler AT tires. The truck has 7500 miles, and had balance problems since I bought it. The dealership replaced two of the tires, due to excessive road force. They still cannot get the tires balanced correctly. Keep getting steering wheel shake. I have brought the truck to the dealership 6 times for this problem. Can anyone give me some advice, before I take legal action??

hmm. tacomaman06 is having the same problem. my advice is stay away from bridgestone

 

I've run Bridgestones on other vehicles without any problems...

Have you rotated the tires to see if you feel a difference in the vibrations?

Can you narrow it down to one or two of the wheels/tires?

Perhaps a 'wheel' is bad....?

I always mention this, but the next time you get them balanced...suggest to the guy once he is done balancing the wheel....ask him to rotate the wheel 180 degrees on the machine and spin it again (to verify and fine tune the balance).

If none of that works - I'd highly suggest you force the dealership to put another set of wheels & tires on the truck from another vehicle. This will help you identify whether or not its the wheels/tires OR perhaps something si wrong with the truck itself.

How about they check the allignment?

Same here. Bridgestone and Firestone (same company) have some great tires. I haven't had a problem with them yet.

 

im having the same problems also.............get the dealer to recheck the alignment, then make sure your lugnuts are torqued to the correct specs., and try adjusting the air pressure to see if that makes a difference first

the bridgestone revo's are an awesome tire..........but i had a set of goodyear wrangler silent armors.......same problems with them......both the revo's and wranglers had 2 tires in the set that had high roadforce......sounds like bs to me though. i find it hard to believe that from 2 consecutive new sets of tires.....both sets are bad!!!

you may end up having to take action amn......or keep the tires with the high roadforce in the rear......you wont be able to feel the shaking then. let us know what you do and what happens!!!

this is one reason, along with alignment issues, that im gonna trade outta my lease for an 04 4x4 tacoma!!!

 

Any chance you guys are running wheel spacers?

 

no wheel spacers for me. and its stock prerunner height also.

 

Anybody try to run Equal ?

We've been running Equal in our BFG M/T's (35's) on our jeep for years.
Granted - it's not a daily driver but it's been on the highway countless times up to 70mph without any problems. You just gotta get the proper amount in each tire to balance properly.

We bought the wheels/tires mounted & balanced and drove 'em home from N.J. The person who balanced them put 3 layers of stick-on weights on the inside of the wheel. Well, the weights were hitting the calipers. So instead of hauling back to N.J. - our local shop guy suggested Equal.

Before you guys go and try this - better find out if it's compatible with the TPMS. Gawd knows, those little granuals might interfere with the TPMS.

Yup... I guess dynabeads are ceramic and Equal is dry polymer.

Makes me wonder if you can use it with the TPMS. On the jeep - we have a special valve that has a filter on the end of it to prevent it from coming out the valve when you let air out. Airing down requires removing the valve so the air comes out faster (the filter gets clogged and air doesn't come out as fast).

But - depending on what type of TPMS system it is on the trucks.... I wonder if anyone at Toyota would have a clue about this?

 

Just trying to help, this started with a prob about highspeed wheel shake. My new 08 double cab 4WD did the same. Seems to be balance in the tires. Re-balanced tires 4x (three times dealer Roadforce) but the prob now seems to be gone. Dealer shop manger admits the Tacoma is very sensitive to tires being perfectly balanced or it shakes. Good luck.
