Besides the plastic feel of the interior, I noticed small details on the GMC such as the dash panel with each instrument in a separate enclosure which would make it a bitch to clean the dash board.

 

To each his own I guess, I prefer the Tacoma, but I know people who are very happy with their Colorado/Canyon.

 

I see plenty of GMC vehicles with 200K miles, but there's no denying the resale argument!

I think the Tacoma looks better in photos as well, but the GMC sure does have a high heel shoe stance to it, which I think looks terrible. As for the seating position, at least it's adjustable in the twins.

 

Yea, I'm able to find a good seating position in the Tacoma, but I can totally understand how the lack of telescoping steering wheel and height adjustable seats could kill it for some people. I guess I'm just lucky that it fits me ... The fit and finish is better on the Tacoma though. It just has a more solid feel to it, and the plastic bits have a nicer texture to them ... Styling is personal taste though, so I understand some may find the Tacoma's less favorable than the GM. This is just my opinion though

 

I'm a newbie to TW. Lotta hate for new folks here in the earlier posts. I never owned a Toyota before, drove plenty of GMCs, Fords and Chevys on the ranch. Owned an old Jeep Comanche in college, loved it and drove it till the engine blew. I was in the market for a new truck, in fact I was really in the market for a diesel truck. Ram tried to put me in their 1500 ecodiesel last year, but I didn't have the scratch at the time and I really didn't need a full size truck. Canyon and Colorado came out with diesel and I got really excited... until I saw how much they want for them over gas, hell I could buy a 1/2 ton truck fully loaded for what they want for the diesel Colorado. GM isn't willing to come down at all because of demand. Then I test drove one... drives like a car. Not to mention the interior sucks ballsack. A coworker got a silver z71. It looks good on the outside, but when you get in, it's like you were teleported to Tijuana. Ill fitting plastic everywhere and reeks of cheap. It's that hard stuff too, where you would rest your arm, uncomfortable as hell. Crappy dials, gauges and switches. How anyone would justify paying 40+ grand for that, is beyond me.

So I started doing research. Since diesel was out, I started looking at everyone that makes a smaller truck. I found out it is really only Nissan and Toyota outside of GM. Compared them all, Frontier to Tacoma to Canyon/Colorado. Seems like everything was in favor of the Toyota. Test drove a Tacoma Off-Road 4x2... don't get me started on that oxymoron... but it drove and felt like a truck should feel, I was blown away by the interior and believe it or not, the exterior. There's a lot of hate from the older gen folks in here, but I like that fugly ass front end. To each his own I guess. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the automatic transmission. It was shifting all over the damn place, but I am manual trans guy and Toyota makes it in stick. Win! So I bought one. Its being delivered on April 1st. 2016' Tacoma DCSB Off-Road 4x4, manual transmission.

This forum has helped me understand a lot of things to look out for with the new model, provided great information, answered a bunch of my questions and provided me a lot of laughs. So hate me for being a newbie here, I don't give a shit. But I appreciate that everyone here seems to care about their truck. That's awesome and glad to be a part of group.

 

I've owned many toyotas and have always been a Toyota fan. I've drooled over the new Tacoma ever since it came out. When they were finally available - I was greatly disappointed by the options & configurations. I started researching outside the box. Went to the PA Autoshow to get our first close up glimpse at Tacoma/Colorado/Canyon. I won't get into the details of what we liked or disliked of each.... and/or the reasons why we chose one over the other. So.... I came home from the autoshow and did some closer up research on an excel worksheet comparing just about everything from horsepower, torque, gas mileage, interior, exterior, size, etc. I got onto KBB and compared resale values on all trucks going back many years. Although....I will admit.... The Colorado/Canyon are a completely different truck from their previous counterparts and nearly 'impossible' to get a feeling for resale value. As most of you know...the Tacoma hasn't changed much in 20 years and we all know, the resale value is very good. My 2007 truck has recently been valued (trade-in offer) at between $12,000 - $13,000 from 2 different dealerships (I bought it at $29,000). And obviously, there's the question of reliability.
I've owned many Toyota's in my life....and they've been very reliable. But, like EVERYTHING you buy these days, they just don't make anything like they used to. When comparing all brands - the 'frame rust' thing is certainly a ding against Toyota. But that's me......

I'll admit.... we've spent a lot of time researching, shopping dealers, etc. We put a down payment on a new truck that we're having a hard time locating. We're trying to locate one before placing an order. But, until its in my driveway...it's not a done deal.

I had a 2013 access cab TRD Off Road and now 3rd gen Off Road dcsb and couldn't be happier!! Such nice trucks! 4x4 is great and can't beat the look. Chevy and GMC are cool if they're 1972 or older. There ain't anything better than a Taco for a midsize Sorry

Please forgive me if this is lazy as I haven't got the time to read 18+ pages of this thread... But have you got a good suggestion for aftermarket front skid plate? The TRD sport did not come with one, and the OEM aluminum skid plate is crap. I had that on my 2010 AC and it got smashed off the truck to the point I had to cut it off while it was hanging from 2 bolts (no pictures from way back when, sorry)

My 3rd gen Off Road 2wd has 6,000 miles. I waited years for the change. It's everything I expected so I'm very satisfied. The reverse monitor and locking tailgate is great. Hands free key is kinda neat but only unlocks the drivers door. Cup holders everywhere and are real world handy.
Although...
The trans does occasionally clunk when backing out of a parking space and shifting to drive.
The sport shift deal won't hold a higher gear so at 70 mph it will downshift into 3rd gear and stay there until 90. I hate to wring its neck like that.
Hypermiling on my commute yields numbers few would be able to match. If getting good mileage in a truck is your thing this truck can get you there.

 

You can change the handle-grab feature to unlock all doors somewhere in the settings on the head unit. Can't remember exactly where, but its there.
