Is this 10k oil change a "normal" use type thing?

My Subaru said 8k for every oil change under normal driving conditions.

Driving conditions that counted outside of normal, which recommended a 4k oil change was:

    • Varying outside temperatures of 40 degrees or more
    • Repeated cold weather starts
    • Hard Acceleration
    • Repeated off road use
    • Extended city driving
    • ect.
In the end almost no one was in the normal driving condition but they could still advertise it.

Honestly I was just at the Toyota orientation on Wednesday for new Toyota owners. What they told me about it is you're not saving any money changing the oil early. As far as what they explained to me is the engine mapping and other computer systems have changed on the 3rd gen to allow for longer times between synthetic oil changes. (Something to that effect)

Personally I won't change my oil sooner because I am a sheep and Toyota said something about saving my hard earned money... Plus I have extended warranty so if something goes wrong I'm damn well going to make sure they honor their end. That said, I would look into that some more yourself. I'm sure the owners manual has something in there about oil changes and such and WHY the frequency has been extended.

That's as much information as I can give you because that's honestly as much as I remember.... I was eating their free food and oogling their hats in the display case... (Of which I snagged TWO for free)

Nice! Broke 30 mpg on my way to work today. Mostly downhill no traffic. Ride home back uphill not as good, 18.5.

It might make perfect sense and 1,000 Toyota engineers can explain it to me but my conscious is not going to let oil run for 10k miles.

At my first oil change I will throw up a thread comparing the used oil to the brand new oil. I'll show you guys the difference. I'm curious to see for myself, so maybe it will steady others' concerns

I have never seen a motor fail from a worn out oil drain plug. ;-)

My favorite rifle! Have you seen the new SOCOM CQB? There's one at the gun shop near my house and I want to spend that 2,200 so damn bad! I'm seriously considering it. Its the hardest hitting small rifle made if you ask me, and just such a badass look and feel in your hands.

I hope you called the first dealer back and told them you bought your dream truck at another dealership - they were greedy and you called them on it

Just put them on Friday, so no problems so far. I had them on my 05 4Runner and my local shop had no issues with them.
