First first gen lift

I've been browsing around the suspension threads for a while and decided to redo my suspension. I would like about 3 inches of lift or so, nothing crazy. I'm most likely gonna need new front shocks and coils and maybe an aal in the rear. What do you guys suggest for this? Also will my handling/wear/ride suffer at all?

 

Depends how much you wanna spend really. I went with the Bilstein 5100s personally. The whole kit with coils, struts, and add a leaf was $650. Rides firmer but not harsher I suppose.

 

Well I believe my shocks right now are shot. I go over bumps and the entire front end shutters and I can feel it through the steering column. So I think it might even be better. What coils and such did you get? And did you replace your rear shocks as well?

This is what it looked like after installation, considering before the lift my tires rubbed in the front and rubbed the bed over bumps I was more than happy that they didn't rub anymore.

 

That looks great! What size tired do you have on there 285??

 

They're 32x11.50-15s.

 

Did you need new ucas

 

I'm still on the stock ones. Admittedly my alignment isn't fantastic, but that's mostly because my camber adjustment is frozen

 

Hey, how did you do that amber led strip in the bumper filler?

 

the shuttering is probably caused by bad control arm bushings. get those inspected first as they will still be an issue with a new suspension setup.

 

Just stuck them on and ran the wire underneath the filler. But they both broke so now I relocated my original blinkers to the marker lights

 

What ucas do people usually get for a first gen?

 

couldn't tell you that one. theres a lot of stuff on the that's good though.

 

I have Toytec's Boss kit on my taco and Toytec's Ultimate lift kit on my 3rd gen 2000 4runner and both trucks still have the stock UCA's. No tire wear issues, rubbing issues or alignment issues. My 4runner has been lifted for over 3 years now and is my DD, never a issue with the stock UCA's. My taco has been lifted almost 2 years now. I mainly only use my taco to tow a small camper, never a issue with the lift and stock UCA's.

 

Hey just wondering where did you get those tires? I've been looking around but can't seem to find them.

 

Sadly they're discontinued now, so nowhere you can buy them new. I bought them used off of an old chevy.

I was running tha lift for a little over a year, and I loved it. With the canopy on and the bed loaded the rear Add a leaf began to sag a little bit... Next time around. I would get a full leaf pack, but for the price- this lift was great, and the ride was never too stiff for me.

How did you do the lift with a 4cyl they explicitly say that the lift will suck on a 4 banger. Did/do you have any problems? And did you assemble the coil overs yourself or paid the extra $100
