Do you take your Taco to dealer for maintenance?

I'm in my 20s as well.
Sadly on the job I am on right now I have more experience doing what we're doing than most of the other guys I'm with.
Everyone is used to tenant work where I am. So just lighting and plugs. armored cable everywhere nothing more. none of them have ever built an electrical room. none of them have ever worked with 3inch or 4inch conduit. none have set up multiple transformers and mounted panels.

Age means nothing its just experience. Construction side of the company is slow so I was put on the tenant side and the job I'm on is actually more similar to new construction and it involves a lot of distribution. Main thing I do.

Younger people are sometimes even better we have more motivation to learn.
I started with a lot of old school guys non union so I had to learn a lot to stay employed. But when youre young you push harder to learn more.

Older guys are usually too stubborn to learn new stuff haha,
I worked with an older guy that said 'he'll use a computer when he can talk to it and it does what he wants'
he also refused to learn how to do communications because to him real electricians don't do comm.

 

not even that the uncommon ones may be hard.
but the specialist has done them day in day out. So he can do them faster and not have problems which can save the customer money

 

I have had all my maintenance done at the dealer and I have no complaints, they have done well by me and my Tacoma is in great shape!

 

I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm gonna do all of my maintenance, including oil changes, and just take my truck to the dealer for "check ups" and tire rotations.

 

Why not do your own tire rotation, that's about as easy as it gets.

What's an automobile "check up"?

 

I know that it's easy to rotate tires, but I don't have an impact gun, which makes the job 100 times easier/faster.

I just assumed the dealership wanted to see the vehicle every once in a while to do ECU updates, etc. Really have no idea what goes on though, first new vehicle

 

Few minutes faster with an impact wrench, I have one but wouldn't bother on a tire rotation.

Mine hasn't seen the dealer since new 11 years ago, there are no ecu updates I need, I doubt there are any.

 

I take my cars to the dealership for service. I like my local dealership and feel confident they do good work.

My Pop's never showed me how to work on cars...and I never bothered to learn. I'm paranoid about being under a vehicle in general. I'd like to think that I could do some general stuff if I wanted. Anything to do with electrical and I'm out lol.

 

My dad never showed me either, as he had a dealer do it all the time. Doesn't mean I can't learn to do it myself. There are plenty of tools that make the job safer.

 

My local dealer offers "THE WORKS" for $24.95. Tire rotation, oil and filter, check and top off fluids, and a multipoint inspection which actually covers quite a bit. I use this service but when they "suggest" something I say no. Filters, brakes, belts, plugs, I do myself.

 

I've seen other Toyo dealers offering similar "the works" packages but when I looked at the fine print the oil was "up to 5 qts non-synthetic". The price for 6 qts of 0w20 in the same package doubled the price.

 

I would take it to the dealer as long as it's under warrenty.

 

Hey that is great. Not everyone has those skill sets. I have owned several homes and done 90 percent of all the work on them myself. Saved and kept a lot of money in my pocket.

 

I take my truck to a tire shop to have them rotated. And tell them not to beat the hell out of my lug nuts with the air impact.

 

I used to always do my own maintenance. Trouble is IF you have an engine issue first question out of stealerships mouth is going to be "do you do all of you maintenance?" and "Do you have receipts?"

With FREE hard to fight that, take it in early for free changes...

One if my co-workers just had a chevy with a stretched timing chain... ^^^ those were the first 2 questions.... since my friend had receipts for oil changes done at an independent shop, timing chain replacement covered in full under warranty. No receipts.... no warranty service.

So ask yourself is free good enough? To me, yeah gonna let them do it. I just had it done this past weekend too... they hosed up my TPMS system too and charged me $120... so I guess the oil change wasn't as free as I would have liked it to be.

 

I don't think it'll be worth the hassle of them trying to sell me stuff all the time. The peace of mind knowing I did it right will be worth it to me

No, all you guy's horror stories make me dread ever taking my truck to a dealer.

Yes, I will take my truck in for the complimentary service. It also helps that the technician that services the truck is a friend of mine otherwise I'd probably just do the services myself.
