Ok so new member with 08 taco. After ilding few hrs one night, next morning barely cranked over but acted like it was running on 4 cyl then die after $200 turns out exhaust was frozen shut. Here is my question would a straight pipe or glass pack fix.

Straight pipe will be fine. You could glass pack, but I am not sure what kind of output you would get or possible ricer tones.

Exhaust was frozen shut? Have you tried letting it thaw out?

So, takeaway, don't let your vehicle idle for hours in cold weather or you'll condense a lot of water into your exhaust and it will freeze later.

Possibly condensation from idling froze in the muffler.

Let's assume that the condensation inside the muffler couldn't just run out the tail pipe.. let's also assume that said water froze. Are we really to believe that there was so much water in the muffler that once it froze the muffler was sealed shut by ice so that no exhaust could escape?o_O

    Right...

Speculation, how did water get in the muffler? Every gallon of gas burned produces a gallon of water.

    Fix your exhaust

If you already have a hole(s) drilled in your muffler, all you need do is run the truck until all the ice has melted and run out. After you do that, any water that condenses in the muffler will run out the hole and your muffler won't freeze solid again.

If you let it idle like that again for a long time (after you seal the holes), you have to drive it for a while to boil off the water that condensed inside..... otherwise you'll have a freeze up again for the next cold morning.

Probably just the latter, but why not just replace the muffler that now has holes in it?

I don't understand why you are fixated on glass packs and straight pipes, they have nothing to do with the problem at hand. Your exhaust is freezing solid, you need to figure out why. Straight pipes will make all of your low end power disappear (this is the power that you want in a pickup truck!) A glasspack will do nothing but make noise.

I still don't understand how the exhaust can freeze solid...

Also, going to a straight pipe seems to be an expensive, drastic and unnecessary solution?
