    Tube bumpers are supposed to be stronger than plate.

    Tube bumpers have more strength than a plate bumper in theory, because tube is stronger than standard plate (I.E. 1.5" .120 wall tubing is more difficult to bend than 3/16's plate).

    Interesting, you've given me more to think about for my future bumper choice, if that is truly the case. Is it safe to assume tube is also more light-weight than plate?

    Yes, I don't remember exact numbers but for 2nd gen bumpers are usually 25-35lbs lighter for tube vs plate.

    It's unreal, I've seen some nasty ones. It doesn't matter what you drive, there's always a bigger vehicle/object than you.

    Tubes are stronger only while perfectly round, once deformed, they will be weaker than thicker plate. The cross section uses moment of inertia formulas to get the most strength for a given shape.

    Finally got a pic of the tree I ran into the other day, I think if it had been a bigger tree and firmer soil I probably would've bent the frame.
