Hockey Trash Talk & BS thread

So, now that football is over, I'm back over to hockey again.

I still don't have a team yet. I'm down to Colorado and St Louis, by geography. Dallas is actually closest, but I'd suck the end of a Mossberg .410 before rooting for a Dallas ANYthing. I'm thinking St Louis just because reasons, at this point, though I'm kinda still open to suggestion.

I gotta say, I like the 'new' 3-man OT. Looks completely different, and fast. Pretty neato.

It's not even playoffs yet what the fuck.

 

Meh, I got to do my first playoff hockey of the year as an official this weekend. Today was great. Girls Midget AAA. It's not the best hockey but the game was physical, well physical for a girls game, and both teams showed up. It was a 1vs6 matchup too and the lower seat managed to squeak out a SO win.

By the time I'm done for the year the NHL will just be starting playoffs... goes to show you how overextended the current NHL season and playoffs are.

Overextended??? How so??? Hockey is basically the only sport I watch. I could watch it year round!! Anything else is shit.

 

Basically the same amount of games during the reg season as 30 years ago no ? And the playoffs only got longer when they made all rounds 7 games in like the 80's IIRC

 

A 28 year old bottom 6 forward who will be an UFA for a draft pick and a 22 yo prospect seems like a good return. TO now has a dozen draft picks in the upcoming draft. I wouldn't be surprised if they have 16 by the end of the year. That will give them tons of flexibility to either package up their picks for higher end picks or take their odds and select all of their picks because odds are at least 3 turn into full time NHLer's. There's even fair odds with that many picks that they will find the diamond in the rough.

As for Mathias, if he wants to be a Leaf still and the team has the room for him, there's nothing stopping TO from bringing him back next year on a more competitive team.

BTW did you catch the Bernier pull in the Flyers game yesterday. Babcock is done with Bernie. Whether they trade James Riemer or not I highly doubt Bernier has any future with the Leafs now.

I'm tired of hockey by June and it's wearing out players well before there time. The league needs to ditch about a dozen games, which would be almost a month of hockey, some how in my humble opinion. Adjusting the first couple of rounds or having a 1 to 3 game play in for the bottom teams that make it would be sweet in my opinion. That would allow more teams to make the playoffs, which would mean more exposure for the game, while shorting the amount of hockey played without actually losing game revenues. The more teams play in the beginning, in a shorter period of time, the less games have to be played to accumulate the same revenue. Not to mention it would reward the top teams far more than they are rewarded now for winning their divisions.

There were 78 games played when the league expanded. So yes, basically the same amount of regular season games. However, there were only 3 7 game rounds in the playoffs during that time which allowed the league to finish before June. I would like to see the same amount of games played so we could eliminate June games. These players, especially now with that new international fiasco the NHL is putting on this year in late summer, are playing way too many games. The word is that Carey Price might be done forever. If that's the case then we have nothing to blame other than burning out great players with too much hockey. Let's bring things down a notch so we can have better quality hockey over more useless games.

I use the NHL streams page from over on Reddit. I don't use that site for anything but streaming hockey and football.

There's always at least a watchable SD stream to be had

I've been TRYING to pay for Sunday Ticket and Center Ice for over a year. I don't have LoS for a dish, and Directv will NOT let me pay full price and get a username and password to stream, even with buying the extra package, without having a working head unit and a locked sat signal.

Think about that. I've offerred to pay full price, without discounts, just to be able to log in and use their expensive package to watch football (and hockey) and they refuse, even though they offer headless streaming in other zip codes.

Nhl.tv has been better for me lately. But I don't live in the home market for the Wild so the only games I miss are the nationally broadcast ones.
