Has anyone been on Chevy's website lately? I just recently went on it to see if there was any ZR2 news about it and was scrolling through the Colorado info page and saw this. Chevy colorado vs. the competition...they are comparing their diesel to the 3.5L tacoma, what a joke.

Look at the ground clearance on that colorado, it almost makes it look like the tacoma is lifted or something.

I did read apparently that the Colorado ZR2 could be coming out which should make things interesting.

I do really like diesels in small trucks. Rented a new diesel Mitsubishi Panjero SUV in Australia that I loved and would pounce on if they sold it or something similar in USA.

I might have waited for GMC or Chevy's diesel if their jackass salesman could have provided a delivery date and figured out how to make the forward collision alert work during my test drive. But neither GMC or Chevy dealership couldn't do either so I was happy to purchase another Tacoma.

Well yeah, obviously. If a customer is reading that though, how they can actually compare that is beyond me. I am sure there will be plenty of people though that will buy that crap. I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy a TRD PRO for the amount of money you are gonna be charged for the diesel and you well get a heck of a lot more for your money. Also the price of ownership will be much lower.

Just seems like when people hear the word diesel, they just immediately think it's the best thing in the world. Sure it may be great in a full size truck if you're towing a lot on a daily basis. But for a midsize truck...you're still limited by the frame and the size of the truck...I mean towing capability went up from 7k to 7700 pounds. Seems like it's not worth it for that little extra towing capacity when you're going to be spending much more for initial price up front and costs of ownership.

I like comparing vehicles like this, I once took a VW diesel I was test driving too a Chevy dealer and compared it too the Cruze diesel. Good times. I've seen a bunch of videos on the Colorado off-road, it's always dragging something, front air spoiler deal and the spare tire. The Taco just goes and has tons of clearance. This being said I don't own either just from watching videos

It's more than the towing capacity...it's how it tows that weight. More torque at lower RPMs.

I guess, but if you're buying a truck primarily to tow, I would personally step up to a full size truck. You would get a ton more capability at probably a less price. (As long as it isn't a top trim)

For me, customer service and reliability was a big factor. I had nothing but problems with my chevy and Dodge truck. Chrysler dealer network made me want to hurt somebody. When I test drove a Colorado and saw the hood fluttering, I was done. Salesman had nothing to say about it. I was hoping the quality of the American car brands had gotten better. Didn't look like it to me. Also, Toyota Tacoma was the ONLY truck that offered what I wanted: manual transmission at a deluxe trim level.

I've said before on this forum that if you're looking to tow, buy the biggest, baddest tow vehicle you can find. That was my introduction to a proper tow vehicle; a Chevy Suburban with a 454 and 4.10 rear. 10mpg by itself, 6-8 with a trailer. I've also bought a Chevy 3500 dually with a diesel as a company tow vehicle and it got better gas mileage.

But towing aside, a turbo diesel is tremendous fun in a small truck/suv just because torque is king. Sure would be nice if Toyota offered a diesel Tacoma. But I'm also not sure I'd want to pay the premium such a vehicle would command.

Ha, know that feeling well after a Grand Cherokee that I needed to sell as soon as warranty expired and a Durango that ate tierods and power window actuators for lunch. "Sorry, the recalls (for same part) were for other model configurations than yours."

I agree...I love torque just as much as the next guy...so initially when I heard about the smaller engine I was slightly disappointed, but it's not the end of the world. Toyota knows what they're doing, they usually follow what the competition does and if it works, maybe eventually they will offer one. Who knows. I do know that the tacoma is still outselling the new colorado like 3-1 or something like that.

Strange to compare a diesel to a non diesel
Anyways doesn't the Tacoma have an EZ lift and lower tailgate?

Thais run them routinely like some of the trucks in that link. The trucks break in half before the engine gives up the ghost. They last forever, take a beating and are a total blast to drive. Looking at getting a TRD Off Road soon but if Nissan comes up with a comparable package but with a diesel, I'm all over it.

I dont really see a problem with it... They compare their best to what Toyota's best is.

There is nothing to compare a mid-size diesel truck to. why? because as of right now, they are the only one. Some of you need to get your head out of the sand.
