I have 2000 miles on mine and my trip meters have reset twice. To be honest, I never paid attention to when it happened. I too like to keep track of my MPG, so I started taking a picture of the odometer miles at fill up. I will mention it to Toyota when I take it in for the 5000 mile check up. Hopefully, there will be a fix by then.

To bad it is not the odometer that is resetting to zero. I would call that a feature.

    Back again.
1900 total miles on the truck, drove to town, (5 miles) parked for 20-30 minutes, came back and what I left showing 127 miles on a full tank and showing MPG indicating, was reset to ZERO on both Trip A and Trip B, and indicating MPH. This is possibly the 4th, 5th or 6th time I have had this happen.
I HAD a theory, that being I/we might be accidently touching a button on the steering wheel, though that's not what it would take to do all this. I've been watching it very carefully.
So, upon arriving home, I now have my dealer (90 miles away) briefed on it, and hopefully doing some homework, and TOYOTA MOTOR CO got a call, and have opened a case file.
Here's a few things HE shared....
He, hasn't heard of it, though he is ONE of 100 service reps who take these calls. That does NOT mean there is no record of this happening. He just wasn't able to access that info.
Rest assured, TOYOTA wants to know about this stuff and fix it.
So, I will be making the 90 mile trip to my dealer one day, and let them plug into it. (And see nothing most likely).

I have a new theory on this one. Well, less of a theory, more of another crackpot hypothesis. Whatever you want to call it, here it is: how has the weather been during everyone's experiences? We had a cold snap here in Southern California (cold for us) during the November through early January, and I think my failures may have coincided with the colder periods. It's been warming back up and I haven't seen any problems recently.

It seems plausible that a faulty battery-type component combined with cold weather could result in sporadic failures.

Just a thought. Probably a bad one.

I agree with this. I have put LEDs in the map lights and hooked up a Scanguage. I wish we could point our fingers at something; some pattern, some repeating cause and effect. I've been getting these resets long before I did any of these things.

Its an intriguing issue. One I sure hope gets resolved as I use the trip meters a lot. (Beside the fact that it shouldn't be left "unfixed".)

I flew for a living. And when I retired I was flying some very sophisticated aircraft; a lot of computer cr@p. And these things do come up. Sometimes it takes quite a while to resolve. As frustrating as it is to me, it is (at this point) entertaining (shouldn't admit that I realize).... I just finished reading all 149 posts AGAIN. Looking for patterns, see what people are seeing. Its like detective work. Though the problem and consequent fix is likely to be technical, very possibly software, though possibly not.

Anyway, I sure hope lots of people are reporting it. In this forum, 45 people have spoken up, and in all likeliness MANY have said nothing to either their dealers, nor called Toyota. It has to be brought to their attention if it stands a chance of being corrected.

My Truck is bone stock. I do have a case number and went to a dealer. No answers or fixes. Toyota plays dumb and won't admit a problem. Too new for the Tech's to understand. All Toyota wants is more extensive testing. Dealer has not set up an appointment yet. I find shutting off truck while filling tank and then set trip A after starting seems too work properly. I will call Toyota again and explain this. What a PITA !!!!!

I just noticed this afternoon that my trip meter and my avg fuel econ reset on its own. I got 2296 miles on it. I hope the monopoly Toyota dealership here in Hawaii will do something about it.

I trust you have reviewed the thread here..... need to call your dealer and Toyota Motor Company, get a case file up and running. AS OF this forum, there are roughly 50 separate reported cases, and we are hoping a resolution might be forthcoming.

FWIW an engineer from Toyota is supposed to look at my truck later this week. After my last visit to the dealer (at the request of Toyota) I was told that on this next visit with the Toyota engineer present a fix would be applied. It seems unclear if that is still the planned course of action. I'll report back at the end of the week.

For those in Hawaii, Toyota Motor Company does not handle any of our claims. I gave the main Toyota Motor Company a call. I get a voice prompt to give Servco Pacific a call. I can't even get the Entune feature on my Tacoma thanks to Servco.

"Sub'd because this just happened to me too. The first time I thought it was just a fluke. Now I know for sure it has happened more than once because I leave my trip B to run for every 5000 miles so I can keep track of my service intervals.

I have the same setup Lol. LED Bulbs and ScangaugeII. Do me a favor, when you can add the Volts to your gauges and keep an eye on it, especially at stop lights ect. I keep seeing a very quick dip in voltage. normally from 13.5 down to 12.7 for less than a second. Also, have you noticed the water temp this sucker get up to? I was stopped at a light last night, it was 61 degrees out and the water hit 200 degrees. I wondering whats going to happen when it's 100+ and the AC is cranking full tilt. My Tundra was a CrewMax, 4x4, Black, Lifted with 35" tires, I never climbed above 200, even on a hot day. This is me getting off-topic since engine temp is likely not connected to this issue. But it does seem electronic, so the voltage dip is some what concerning. I also will note my LED running lights do not come on during the day anymore (I made sure they were on in the vehicle customization menu), again an electrical component. I have a full copy of the techstream software loaded up on a laptop just waiting on the MINI VCI cable to show up since all of my cables are BMW specific. Grrr. Can't wait to drive into the computer and see if I can see anything!

One thing I am going to try tonight is turning the truck off before it has finished going through it's start up cycle. I have a feeling this is where it's happening.

    Heya.
So I've set my Scangauge to monitor voltage as well as water temp. I see nothing unusual.
If the engine is pulling at a fairly low RPM, your temps are going to rise: The more air you puul through the radiator (higher RPM, the more efficient the cooling. That's why torque aside, its best to run the engine at a higher RPM when pulling a hill, especially a trailer up a hill, great cooling benefits.
And remember too, you will see fair your water temps vary quite a bit corresponding to the thermostat opening and closing.
Its easy to get the water temp to rise over 200 pulling a hill; just run it a a low RPM. Run your RPM up by downshifting, and you'll note a dramatic cooling registered via the Scangauge. (The analog temp gauge in the truck hardly shows it.)
By the way, regardless of what kind og running you've been doing, its not uncommon to see 200-202 waiting at a light with the engine idling. As soon as you take off, the temps drop immediately. These temp also correspond with the temps I used to observe in my '02 2.7 manual. My last trip pulling a lot of weight up to Alaska especially some of the long hard pulls on the interstate (I-5), I started seeing 206 - 208, so I changed the thermostat, and did a very though system flush. No changes in water temps. All is well. And running flat and/pr descending, normally we see temps of 184-195. Sames temps whether the '02 or the '16 3.5 auto.

ISA the voltage, I see nothing unusual there either. Shows consistent 13.5-13.6v. Can make it fluctuate with load though.

Just noticed it happened for the first time about 1100 miles on the truck. Anyone get any answers from Toyota yet.
