My OEM CV axle boot is sheered open from this weekends fun, i already have the SDHQ boots in my parents garage. How hard is it realistically to replace just the boots?

Never done it, curious myself. Thinking I should have the SDHQ boots thrown on when my axles get rebuilt

Pulling them out is the easy part. But replacing the boots isnt as easy. Note: the SDHQ boots do not come with the inner clamp or grease.

because its $100 for a brand new CV and just say do it live instead of breaking down the CV and replacing the boots. Problem is i already paid and have had the SDHQ boots for months in the garage.

Check out CVJ axles. Its $120 I think for a rebuilt OEM CV or $150 with the upgraded extended silicone boots. The boots are awesome, I love mine

Go to my build thread for a bunch of info on cvj axles. I emailed them and they gave me a ton of info. Its for a first gen but shouldn't be all that different.

They mention all the different boots and how each on is different as well.

This is another debate to have. Yes you can save some cash replacing the boots but if the axles are clicking on turns and have some big miles on them it may be more cost/time effective to just replace them.
I have a full extra set of complete new axles and a 2nd set of shafts on my garage floor. I picked them up cheap from someone who went LT. When these go ill swap in thr replacements and rebuild these with sdhq boots.

I'm going to just replace the shaft, keep everything else. The SDHQ boots tear so easily I'm going to keep my cvj ones.

Yeah I definitely would at that mileage. It'll save you a lot of time and hassle too. Highly recommend cvj..

Id say replace the full shafts and prehaps look at the costs to rebuild them with the SDHQ boots later for a spare set. You may get lucky and come across a good deal like i did.

If you don't return a your oem cv then you don't get your core charge back.. I think the core charge is $100 per axle
