Back Up Camera Wiring

I bought a back up camera and it appears i need to tap into the reverse light wiring to get the camera to work. I was wondering if there is anyway to bypass that little safety feature on my camera, if not, where is the nearest reserve light wire thats near the cab that i can splice. If i cant get it to work i am stopping by the dealership

Which safety feature? by tapping into the reverse light bulb wiring..you're making the camera turn on as soon as the reverse light bulb turns on. (the way it should be)

 

yeah thats what its intending for me to do, but i want to bypass that so i dont have to tap into the reverse light wiring

 

If you don't want to tap into any wiring, then you're gonna have to run a whole new wire from the battery and just run it off a switch.

Then you would be able to turn on the camera whenever you wanted

hahaha well its just i dont want to have to tap into the reverse lights, i want to just kinda power up and see whats behind me lol

 

Colin you have that fog light on your trailer wiring harness, right? Just tap into that with a new wire to the reverse lights in the fuse box.

 

This diagram I drew up for you will allow the camera to turn on when engaged into reverse or whenever you want with a switch. The diode is to prevent current going to the reverse wire and turning the reverse lights on when you flick the switch on in a gear other than reverse.

yup.

the camera will turn on everytime you engage the truck into reverse. if you're in park, drive, neutral, whatever.... just flip the switch on and the camera will come on in any gear.

 

sweet deal man!!! quick question, where would those wires be located.

 

there's plenty of ignition sourced wires within the cab. the reverse wire can be found in the cab as well, behind the driver-side kick panel or you can find it out back at the tails.
