What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

I have only had a couple minor rubs. Went out today and didn't rub one time and I was in some rough stuff. As a side note, crawl control is worth every penny. I got stuck and it was not looking good. Crawl control got out no problem.

 

I got similar ones installed and they are good but I would not install them rite from the box. the one you posted have same problem, I can tell by just looking at picture. I'll make make new thread about it once I get alignment.

 

Im looking to order tires and was wondering if the rubbing comes from the height of the tire or width ? Is the tire too tall? or Wide ?

 

There is a 38 page thread on 4runner-forum about ebay UCA's which are the same between 2nd gen tacomas and 4th gen 4runners at least. the verdict is maybe

 

Copy that, thanks for the link. Still probably going with TC UCAs. I figured a little research couldn't hurt while waiting on the Boss backorder from Toytec.

 

Probably a good choice, saving $400 isn't worth your wheel falling off on an off-ramp

 

I read all 38 pages, there was only one failure and that was because the person put them on upside down. Some reported getting grade 8 bolts with the newer ones instead of the grade 5's with the early ones and having to upgrade them yourself. I'm gonna pull the trigger on the silver ones once they are back in stock.

The major complaints were with the uniball coming packed with grease, thin powder coating, and the bushings. These parts are all replaceable anyway.

Combination. Depends on what you are wanting to achieve?

 

For daily driver light off road use. With OME 887 and bilstiens set @ .85 with 2" AAL . Will 285 70 17 tires rub?

 

Also the product and materials description being cut and paste from the TC website and the teflon liner being puked out of one of the Uniballs. Who knows if the arms are really Chromoly 4130? Without material certs or a mass spectrometer you are really relying on the vendor reputation, and it is not even clear who the vendor is other than they have four eBay storefronts. Not all Chromoly 4130 is equal either. With basic errors like bolt grade and grease in the uniballs I would expect the worst. All sounds very sketchy to me. I doubt the seller has ever seen a set on a truck much less driven it. No way I would risk it on a part that could kill you. Multiple excellent quality options on the market (TC, Icon, Camburg, AP, etc.).


I have used TC UCAs on my second Gen for over 60k miles on original uniballs without issue or noise. I also have a set on my 3rd Gen. Lots of salt, dust, mud, sand, etc. without problem.

 

I did my lift this weekend.... There were a few things that irked me but of which only one of them really came down to user error, another that I didn't see in this thread, and lastly a Vendor issue that I plan on contacting them today...

1. Be careful with your clasps for the Coilover Reservoirs The ones supplied will work but just don't over tighten (only issue caused by me)
2. The UCA bolt, you will need to bend the metal out of the way in order to get the bolt out. (Not an issue but wanted to add that just incase people were wondering)
3. ICON... Both of their AAL center pin bolts stripped. Both in the exact same spot. One was put on by hand, and one was impacted on. Both stripped about 1/2" above the leaf springs. (Yes we had the Leafs compressed completely. Not trying to use the pin to do it.)

Overall, it was quite easy and painless. Only thing I need to do now is extend my coilovers so I can get the proper lift height achieved

 

Did you have the add aal compressed, or were you trying to do that with the center pin?

What back spacing is on your wheels? How wide are your wheels? Will you be maintaining the factory UCA which will limit your alignment options?

Your lift sounds high enough to keep the tires from rubbing but the other factors I questioned here come into play now. Just side note - from what I have heard the 887/5100 combo rides rough. But I have not ridden with someone that has this yet to know first hand.

 

What size wheels and tires you plan on running?

 

285/17sIll end up needing to do a Cab mount chop as well.

 

not true, I'm running a 285/70r17 on OME 885 with nitro charger shocks, 1/4" spacers, trim packer, and deaver 2" AAL, with factory UCA and I'm not rubbing anywhere.

 

I think he has aftermarket UCA, you will rub if you have non adjustable UCA: less than 3" lift, and if your caster is not maxed out on LCA
