Jonathan (DogHouse Forge) who was on last season is a friend of ours and gave me one of their camp knives to "test".
He might've finished second on the show but he and his knives are top quality.

The best angle for you really depends on a hundred things, mainly how hard you abuse it and what kind of steel you have.

    I have a Nakamura that I got for the M390 steel. uploadfromtaptalk1456157071757.jpg

I took it down to 18.5~19° on my edge pro just to see how the edge held up and I love it. It's really hard so it keeps the edge forever and takes a perfect mirror when I go all the way up to my finest stones.

    But
It'll break if I'm not careful. My old 20 dollar Kershaw wouldn't work near that thin.

No size limit on folders or fixed.

Only stipulation is that fixed blade can't be concealed.

And unless you are LE or MIL, no automatic knives. Auto-assist is OK.

On the LE/MIL end.. autos can be owned, but can't be carried unless LE or MIL.

    Last I checked, anyway.

Picked these two up at a yard sale for $1.00. One very primitive homemade with a deeply etched fish and the other is a USA made Schrade Sharp Finger that I use all the time for skinning deer.

Automatic knives aren't legal in many states. But I hear the sentiment...at least it's not New York.

On the fish knife, is there sign that the blade broke off down near finger guard? Seems like it isn't a choil, as it's got a bevel grind.

Looks like someone might have had an "oops" moment and ended up grinding it back there, otherwise it makes no sense.

Really cool find. I have a less ornate handmade Hudson Bay knife made by a dude in the south somewhere, can't beat the feeling when you hold those kinds of knives.

    I think it's just a very odd design, it's thick 1/4" stock.

    Huh, interesting!

That's pretty thick material to break, but still feel like that was a deep belly cutting edge at some point in it's life. The bevel and finger guard and lack of choil really makes me wonder.

I'm trying to find anything that says you have to be LE or MIL to own anything under 2 inches and I cant.. Even Blade HQ has a section of "California Legal" Automatic knives that are under 2 inches. I went through the check out process and it never asked for a military ID or badge number either..

I was mainly saying you don't have to be LEO or MIL to own.

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if i can carry mine lol I've been carrying my protech in one pocket and a manual folder in the other. From what I read when I first got it I thought it was fine and can't find anything to the contrary.
