I'm going to buy a Tacoma but unsure of which gen.

I'd like to save some money and buy a used 2014 or 2015 however with the residual resale value, I'm tempted to buy a 2016. I plan to keep it for 10 years and hand it down to my daughter.

Have any 2nd gen owners here not liked driving the 3rd gen?

Up here in Canada, by the time I buy winter tires, a cap or cover along with a few accessories, I'll be pushing close to 50k CDN for a limited 3rd gen. Still uncertain if I can part with that kind of money for a mid sized truck.

I debated this but with the high resale values on the 15s went with a new 16. I got a new 16 TRD OR with the tech package for about 6 grand more than a used 15 SR5.

I still can't believe I paid this much for a new truck though. Part of me wants to sell it and go buy a $3000 beater SUV.

Oh I know that feeling. My kids just trash our vehicles anyway so sometimes I wonder why I'm going to even bother.

Check my build thread...too much to list.
I did not enjoy driving the 3rd gen. I didn't like how much it shifted/downshifted between gears. It may have been due to the fact my 2nd gen is manual and I'm only used to the shifting when I want it to. I also did not go to the dealer with the intention of purchasing a new truck, just out of pure curiosity. I wanted to see how the 2016 manual transmission was but sadly the dealer didn't have any.

Glad this is in the 2nd gen section.

I didn't like the looks of the 3rd gen grill, and the hood blocks a lot of your driving view.

Drove a 4 cylinder model, but seemed adequate for me.

    I drove it.
Personally I liked it and think it's a solid vehicle.
As someone else mentioned the used 2nd gens are almost as much as a new 3rd gen.
I've seen used 2nd gens being sold for more than their original sticker price in my local market.

Imo I would pay a little more and get something brand new.

I never understand this. Does anyone know that when you drive, your eyes are supposed to be as far ahead as you can see ? You should be scanning the road half a mile ahead or more, looking for potential trouble so you can react to it, while constantly shifting your eyes to your mirrors to check beside you and behind you, keeping aware of what's going on. Why would you need to see 15 or 20 feet in front of you while driving ? If you said blocked your view of the concrete parking barriers, I would have still laughed at you but not as much.

You're one of the idiots that stares at the road directly in front of you while driving, apparently.

No, but saying you don't need to see 15-20 feet in front of you is asinine.

I know what he's saying. You can't react to something that's literally right in front of you anyways, so why see it. 15-20 feet is a stretch though. The hood certainly does not block that much of the view. Maybe if you are 5 foot 2 or something.

I didn't say that. If something happens 15-20 feet in front of you while driving, it obviously came from the side. Your peripheral vision is going to see it. You do NOT stare directly in front of your vehicle while driving. If you do, you're asking for a serious accident. Geez, now I know why I'm so f'n busy in my job.

    Yes, you did.
Could you show me where I said I stared 15-20 feet in front of me?
Making a blanket statement that you don't need to see 15-20 ft in front of you is just stupid. Calling someone an idiot based on a narrow minded assumption of driving style is even more so.

Could the distance you need to see ahead be related to speed? For example at greater speeds you look farther ahead? Could this be the most retarded thread ever? I think so but I am new here... :)
