Buying a Tacoma

Hey guys I am new to the forum, and I just wanted to ask some questions before I buy my tacoma!

Right now I have a 2003 Ford Ranger Single Cab XLT 4.0, nothing really done to it. I want to get a new truck and I have checked all new trucks that are out and work on them (Car Audio Installer at Circuit City). And I like the interior alot as well and them seem very easy to work on.

So I have come down to either buying the 2009 Toyota Tacoma Single Cab PreRunner 2.7l or a 2008 Chevy Colorado Single Cab.

So give me your guys opinion on the tacoma itself

the tacoma is one badass machine. great resale value too. the 2.7 is a great motor. good on gas too.....which is a big plus these days. you wont have as much power with the 2.7 versus the 4.0 from ford, but it will make up for it when you compare gas savings. plus......there are lots of mods to do to the prerunner. plus, and this is just opinion, but the tacoma looks way better than the colorado. and the prerunner's stance is awesome too.

 

Yeah I really like the stance of the truck it sits a little higher then the chevy and my ford. It looks sweet as well, yeah gas is killing me in the ford. I really do not need the power I do not off road or anything. I am just a young college kid who is looking for a good truck.

well........just some fyi.....if you get the tacoma, you will have something that will last you a long time. thats how good these trucks are. domestics just dont tend to last as long. you need to test drive both before you make the decision, but im pretty sure you will be happy with the tacoma as a whole.

 

Yeah test drove Colorado really nice ride. But like you said they dont last as long and that is what I am afraid of, my truck I have already had to replace the transmission, and headers. And I hope all domestic trucks are not like that. And that is why I am looking a "Taco"

I was in your same position (minus the Ranger. I came from a Matrix,) I test drove some Colorados, and just for a comparison to what the truck would be like after some time I picked out a few used Colorados and Tacomas.

I will tell you...the Colorados don't hold up well at all. The worst one I drove had only 5,000 miles on the clock, and was dressed to the nines. Double cab, leather, auto, Z71 4x4, sunroof and satellite radio...but that thing was a rattle bucket. So I chocked that one up to a rough owner and found a used extended cab with a manual tranny, and that one was slightly better, but the shifter nearly shook the teeth out of my head while idling.

Every Tacoma I looked at (both new and used) were quiet, smooth, and less prone to seeming older than it really was.

And just another point, my father worked for GM, so I could have purchased the Colorado I wanted (Extended cab, Z71, leather) for around 13k. I still went with the Tacoma.
