I've searched around and I really couldn't find an answer. I am wondering if I can fit 285/75/16 tires with a 1' spacer lift in the front and stock height in the back. I won't be doing any off roading. This will only be temporary until I save enough for a 3" lift kit.

It will probably rub like hell. I considered doing the same thing, but I just ordered Bilstein 5100 front shocks ($190) that I'll put at 2.5" of lift & AAL. I also ordered 285/75R16 (33) BFG KO2 w/ aftermarket wheels. I'll run that set up until I order a full 3" system.

Here's a truck I saw on another thread. He's running no lift with TRD Sport wheels. It's on 285 (33s).

So then it might be doable without the spacer lift :anonymous:

Considering how often people post about having to cut things to run 285's on a 3" lift... I'd say no.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    3" lift reporting in.

Took quite a bit of cutting to get mine to work. Don't do it. Pocket the cash for now and do it all in one move.

UPDATE: I installed my 285/75R16 wheels and tires on my truck today with no lift (waiting for bilstein 5100 to get here on wednesday). It rubbed horribly. I couldn't even get out of my driveway. I turned the wheel maybe 1/4 to 1/2 turn and it rubbed like crazy. Now my truck is just sitting in my garage on those wheels and tires waiting on the lift. I don't think a 1" spacer would fix that problem.

Just out of curiosity, after thinking just a bit about suspension geometry, why do you think lift will prevent those tires from rubbing? I just gotta have somebody answer that question because its one of the great mysteries of TW. We see that idea arise about weekly.

The part of the tire that was rubbing was the rear most part of the tire on the mudflap area of my fender. Lifting the vehicle gets the rear most part of the tire out of the fenderwell (the vehicle going up, tire staying in the same place). After the lift, the part of the tire that's closest to the fender when turning won't be the rearmost point of the tire.

Are you implying that no matter how much lift I install on my truck, I'll still rub?

People with the same tire and a lift to clear it have posted what it took to get it to work on their truck. Yours is gonna work the same. Good luck to ya.

I realize I'm going to have to trim. The difference is the amount of rubbing I experienced today vs how much rubbing I'll experience once I get the truck lifted.

A 1" lift is a leveling kit. You're not going to clear 285/75R16 with any amount of travel in the tire at BEST. And you're going to be gutting the inside of the wheel well heavily. I hope you're prepared to cab mount chop as well.

I don't know if you're responding to me or OP. I'm not going with a 1" kit. I was responding earlier to the OP that I didn't think a 1" coil spacer would help clear 33s. I'm going 2.5" w/ 5100s. I realize I'll still have to trim.

Yes. Suspensions cycle and with any reasonable (read that as economically achievable with an IFS suspension) lift those rub points don't go away just by raising them an inch or three.

will bilstein 5100's set at 2.5" fit 285/70/17?

when will people get it through their heads that at 285/70R17's / 285/75R16's or bigger no amount of lift will make them not rub. You cycle the suspension and turn, they will rub... lift doesnt fix that.

And people say oh i dont off road.....

3 inch lift and 285/75R16's simply going over speed bump / curb / up a driveway with some sort of turn will make em rub.

If you flex your truck at all with that tire size, plan on cab mount chop, flattening pinch weld, and tons of cutting of the inner fender.

But surely it won't happen to me, my truck is a unique snowflake, and my money can buy all of the special parts that no one else has tried yet.

    ....or something

Ok so my 33's fit and didn't rub, but I had a good CMC and pinch weld pounded back. Full stuff I rubbed my fenders pretty good, then I got fiberglass and lift spindles and my rubbing went away. Bout to find out if I can fit 295/75/16 on 2.5" lift for DD'ing for a month before LT and glass comes
