Within the past 2 months I have had major trouble falling asleep. I will toss and turn for about 5 hours before I even get drowsy. It sucks. Can anyone recommend a med (OTC preferably, since I don't have insurance) that works well?

I'll be on the lookout for some of that. I'll have to take my phone in with me and point to those words and tell the pharmacist "I'll take two of these words and one of this word, please" like a 7 year old.

Drink a few beers before you sleep. I sometimes have the same problem. I can't sleep until around 2-4.

Time released melatonin worked great. The time released type will help keep you asleep through the night. I used this a number of years ago so there could be better options now, but I know this worked great for me. Good luck.

Aside from what everyone else is saying....

    Are you hydrated enough?

I've noticed with myself....if I'm not hydrated enough, my heart rate tends to race. When it races, I can't get sleepy. Drinking a big glass of water helps reduce the heart rate.

Have you talked to a doctor? You really should get health insurance and talk to a doctor just in case there isn't other problems.

Skip the Tylenol and just take benadryl, it's the sleep aid in Tylenol pm. No sense stressing the liver.

X2 on the ambien though, just beware of the sleepwalking like they said earlier. Ive cooked meals, and all sorts of stuff with absolutely no recollection.

Like wolfpack said, melatonin, or valarian root. Both are more of an over time remedy but are much less stressful on the body. They are also fairly cheap. You'll find them in the supplement isle at the pharmacy or at any "organic health" store.

Are you getting enough exercise? I had several months of insomnia when my routine changed and I was getting very little exercise (especially aerobic).

Not much yet, got a pretty good sound system w/ my custom sub box. Plan on adding more lights & a tool box.
Might consider if it's something you're doing during the day. I now NEVER have caffinated coffee after 11:00 AM, otherwise I'm tossin & turnin. Do you Drink a lot of Mt. Dew, or other cafinated soda? Try a cup of the "Sleepy Time" (I think) teas just before bedtime as well. You can't get stuck on them as easily & no prescription req'd.

Surprisingly enough, exercise isn't a problem. I work in a 3-story restaurant, so there's no lack of running up and down stairs.

I might have to try the 'ol water trick. I've started drinking more water at work, so it's not that I'm drinking too much caffiene. And as far as getting health insurance...that shit costs money. Money that I don't have. As soon as they start giving me the money that buys insurance, it'll get bought. I hope it's soon.

I haven't taken any Benadryl yet, but I have been taking Excedrin Back and Body, and that's been helping a lot.

I would just be careful with sleeping pills. Thats what they are PILLS. Im sure there is some urgent care aroud where you live at where it isn't expensive to see a doctor. I rarely go to the doctor too because of no insurance too.
