Camping Idea Help

I just was looking at a thread about someone with a second gen with a camper shell and a nice looking camping setup inside. I really want a camper cap thing, but they cost to much, so im just waiting for a deal to pop up on craigslist or something. In the meantime I want to build a little bed type thing with storage areas and stuff. I guess what I need to see is peoples camping arrangments and how they made them...thanks

Probably the quiest/easiest way to go would be buying a tent that fits in the bed.

yea, but out in vt, its a differnt story, there ain't much and when I do find one, its like $600 But i'll keep looking, what I might get is a bestop Supertop type idea, even though its $586. Another hard thing is to find the right color for my truck

 

Yeah, I love those soft Bestop Supertop ones. They're pricey, but I love the way they look. Plus, I don't like caps on truck and would only use it when needed. Another reason for the Bestop....

Here's some PIC's from the very first weekend I had my truck, so I wasn't "setup" yet. We camp 4 to 6 weekends a year. That Bestop would be the ticket... But, I need to haul the canoe....

I love my cap. I have a bed anywhere, anytime always a roof over my head. Ive parked in parking lots and neighborhoods in pebble beach sleeping in the back of my truck like a ninja.

 

i put rubber mats in the bed and sleep there. if it rains i go under the truck or in the cab... but im working with a college budget here and i prefer to sleep under the stars. and as a bonus the rubber mat keeps deer from sliding all over the place when i gotta drive em out of the woods

 

I want to do the same, I found a great deal on CL for a camper top. Now i'm just waiting on the weather to warm to start perfecting my truck camping arrangement

This guy shows you step by step how to make a sweet bed arrangement. Its not to hard or expensive! Also, he has great steps on all his mods. It's also a 1st gen taco!

 

I'm looking around for camper shell as well... Torn between getting a cab-high shell or a high liner shell due to the headroom issue when sleeping above an elevated storage platform.

 

I wonder if that's still for sale. I've always thought those can-backs were the way to go! They look sweet!

 

I personally would go with the cab high shell but the High liner shell would be nice too especially if you go with a fairly high storage platform and thick mattress. I would also recommend finding one with Win-doors, so its easier to access the storage in the front of the bed. Those are hard to come by though, and are very expensive.

 

I recommend a small tear drop trailer like the one above, I have a camper shell and it is a pain in the ass when i want to haul something in the back of my truck. I now have it sitting on the side yard of my parents till my next camping or ski trip. On the other hand its really nice having all of my stuff protected in my truck when it rains or when we go hiking. Shells are give and take, they give you stuff protection but get in the way when you want to pub bikes, quads, dirt bikes or large items in your truck.
