How about yourself? Why do you need to listen to others about what will make you happy owning a vehicle?

I am sorry but I am not talking about reviews from Edmunds. I could care less, I am talking about reviews from other Tacoma owners at edmunds and other web pages, and Yes I do care because it means I am not the only one having issues with this tranny

I think you took it a bit far there saying "Why do you need to listen to others about what will make you happy owning a vehicle?". Any rational vehicle purchase will involve research which includes looking at thinks that the prospective owner will deem important.

After deciding I wanted (and needed) a truck, for me that was (in no particular order) fuel economy, safety rating, reliability, available features/options and resale value to name a few. I looked up all this information from the respective websites that provided them (e.g. www.iihs.org) which also included some car review sites.

After all that information was gathered I took my shortlist and went on test drives before making the final decision (which in part relied on making a deal with the dealership too).

So your comment ""Why do you need to listen to others about what will make you happy owning a vehicle?"." is invalid. As best I could I did the research and made a rational decision for the time.

I have spoken to a number of car salesman acquaintances and they say in general they get two types of customers, ones liek me and others who do little or no research and just come in to make an impulsive buy because they think a vehicle looks cute, they like the colour or they think what the commercials show them will also happen to them too if they buy a vehicle (i.e. on emotion)

I'm a little confused here, where do we disagree on this point? Why do you have to read a "review" to look at things that the prospective owner will deem important?

None of the information you mention here comes from review sites. Safety, features, and fuel economy figures come from the manufacturer. Resale value and reliability involve reading into what used ones are selling for and looking at bulk data, not "reviews".

You still didn't listen to what other people think about the truck to make your decision, hopefully.

I've sold cars for years. In no way shape or form is it a good idea to buy on impulse. I in no way suggested that. All I said was you need to be the judge and jury when it comes to buying the car. Don't need to listen to Edmunds reviews, motor trend test drives, "consumer" reports, and other BS. I've often found that car buyers have a very difficult time separating opinions from facts.

You will never win with Tunngavik or convince him of sound reasoning. He's a tried and true 3rd gen hater and only comes here to see which arguments he can win..thus why he's been banned recently. Just take a look at his post history in this section. Not inspiring in the least. Seems he's headed right back down the same path.

Sounds like you have a hate on for me bro.

I think DanielTaco were having a respectful conversation - at least that's how I saw it.

all reviews are subjective (at least on a new model of vehicle) so all you have is reputation(of said manufacturer) and your own opinion. The rest means nothing.

We are, I have no probs with disagreeing on stuff. Just sounds like you're getting a bad review on here. I don't read much into reviews though. ;)

No hate, I've just never seen you once offer a bit of helpful advice in the 3rd gen section, just looking to see who you can battle wits with. Keep on keeping on.

I don't think we are disagreeing.

I think reviews are pretty relevant if they are saying the same thing - that way some of the nuances that don't come out in bulk data can be assessed.

Here is an example (maybe not the best). If someone is thinking about buying a small car - they could read all the reviews on the various makes (Yaris, Fit....). They then come to the various reviews on the Mitsubishi Mirage which all say the vehicle is a piece of crap (fit an finish, power, handling etc) and even though on paper some aspects of the car might look good (e.g. price, # of airbags) there is a consistent negative message from the review sites.

That alone might put someone off from wasting time and going to the next step and taking the vehicle for a test drive. OR if the review sites say the fit and finish and handling is terrible but the prospective buyer still wants to take the vehicle for a test drive, then it's something they can closely evaluate on in that test drive to see if the review sites comments on the vehicle are valid.

So review sites are good in the sense that the buyer can still use them as a source of information and as an initial evaluation tool.

Looks like you're trolling bro - you the self appointed forum moderator now? Or just the local bully?

That, and I don't want you to show me pictures of your anatomy.

Just add me to your ignore list like Sam did. I added him as well and now I'm adding you.

You're absolutely correct. After a while it learns your driving pattern and all of these so called "issues" that a couple people make seem so awful go away.
