First time you make a sharp turn on dry pavement you'll know it's in 4WD. You want need a display to tell you.

For a lot of us that's true. Think of how many clueless people you know though.

Follow the Money dude. GM profits stay in America, Toyota profits go back to Japan.

This is true, but both companies employ thousands of Americans, Canadians, and Mexicans in design, manufacturing and parts suppliers. Both are international automotive powerhouses. JMO.

GM profits go to corporate bonuses and stock dividends you mean. Very little of it ends up in the hands of someone in the USA who will spend it to keep the economy going. It's the same for Toyota of course.

    My argument for colorado
    Comfier ride
    Better mpg
    More torque/hp
Better trade in value for my current truck (at least where ive checked)

Family had a camry that went 240k with very little maintenance done to it.
Gotta 2001 1500 silverado that keeps doin her thing too (150k miles)

If you cant feel the difference pulling away from an intersection you dont deserve it.

Yes, if you take a turn, you would notice, but then you've already stressed the drivetrain. Plus, you can drive several miles on the highway without having to turn.

How exactly would you feel it when you take off from a stop? If you're turning, sure, but going straight, you probably aren't going to notice.

Ha idk its just really easy to tell of weight of engine is getting pushed from the rear 100% or if the front wheels are working too. Obv easier on a turn but from any stop not too hard to notice

Yeah, but the taxpayers didn't have to bail out Toyota.

For me, if I'm spending 35,000 plus, I'm gonna buy the truck I want regardless of where the profits go, etc. It's not all black and white as others point out. My piece of shit 1995 Dodge was made in Mexico. My Honda Element and new beloved Tacoma were made in the USA. Which was really an American car? I'm sick of people chastising me for buying a "foreign" car. If Chevy or Ford made what I WANTED, I'd buy it. They don't and I didn't.

The Colorado will give you a comfortable ride.

But those MPG numbers and HP/torque numbers are deceiving.

Theres a couple of reviews out there where the Tacoma engine beats out the Colorado diesel at towing drags.

I'll reply if I could find the thread.

Most people aren't drag racing with a trailer behind them. I honestly don't care about 0-60 times. It's more about the quality of the ride, and how well the engine handles it. The Colorado diesel will smash the Tacoma in MPG when towing. And it won't rev as high.

not at all deceiving IMO. I debated long and hard taco vs canyon.

I made sure to do the exact same route in all 4 test drives. I did 2 different 24 hr test drives with each truck same model.

Tacoma got 17.2 mpg (roughly) its about 50/50 split on highway city. Both Tacoma's V6 were shifting like crazy. Which didn't really bother me all that much. But I am sure thats why it go so bad mpg.

Canyon got 25.9. I noticed when cruise was set, it didn't downshift to gain speed.

First hand account, the mpgs were on par with GM advertisement. Taco wasnt.

The GM diesel is a $3,995 option so I wouldn't use gas mileage as a reason to buy one, however, if you like the GM diesel better and don't mind paying the premium then I can see it as a viable option.

Consumer reports really trashed the build quality and the reliability of the GM twins this year. 5 years down the road...are things going to be better? Are they magically going to heal?

They are probably more cushy and comfy than the new taco, but mechanically, there is no comparison. If you keep your vehicles for the long haul, like 10+ years, then the best choice is the Tacoma.

I'm still digging my 2014 and it is a model T by comparison to the new Colorado and the new Tacoma. They have nicer seats, quieter interior, and more bells and whistles. But I don't care. Bells and whistles and more moving parts increase the probability that I'll have to spend money on it in 10 years to keep it on the road. No thanks, I can handle my manual seat, no forward collision detection, and old-fashion non-soft opening tailgate.

And gets shipped to tax havens like the Cayman Islands, just so they don't pay corporate income taxes.

Anyways, give it some time and Nissan will release their Cummins Frontier, which might be of better quality than the GM twins.

Follow the money. What do you think the profit margin on these trucks is? Maybe 15%.

How much of the sales price is in the engine and assembly of the trucks? I'm guessing more like 50% of the sales price. A good chunk of that money goes straight into the pockets of the guys busting their asses on the assembly lines in Huntsville and San Antonio.

The Tacoma has 60% american/canadian content. The Canyon/Colorado are at 61%. The full sized GM trucks are down at 45% with 51% from Mexico. American made is not as simple as looking at the logo on the tailgate.
