I read in another forum that there was an updated map for the transmission. Some dealers supposedly have been performing the update with certain tranny complaints.

Those who get new mapping will likely go back to Gen 2 MPGs, The transmission is mapped for max fuel economy thanks to the EPA

    ECT is the new mapping

which is why Toyota will never approve of it. Some people dont want to believe, that they (Toyota) is in a battle with Honda and GM. To stay on top, they need their numbers to be close to the competition.

all of that sounds good but it is far from reality. Many owners (myself included) are reporting worse MPG with the new truck compared to the 2nd Gen, and I believe the reason is the low torque on the engine, you have to rev it more in order to get to the speed you want, therefore consuming more fuel. so in this case is not a winning situation for anyone. On the second gen at least the tranmission did not hunt for the right gear like this generation and it felt more alive. This generation feels sluggish and is giving me the same or less mpg than the previous one. Again this is my opinion and what I've been experiencing , does not mean everyone is experiencing this but many are

Here's where we don't see eye to eye. Have you ever dealt with the general public, on a consistent basis? We are all nuts, and have wildly different opinions of the same things. One persons perspective doesn't matter unless their thinking aligns with yours, and that's not easy to figure out online.

the comparison is apples to oranges. This one is nothing like the last gen, except the suspension.

Understood but the second gen felt a lot more powerful than this and the MPG on the 3rd Gen is almost the same if not worse than the 2nd Gen

It depends on what you are paying attention to on the instrument cluster. My MPG read 17.8 but when I shut it off, the MPG for the trip was 22.3. I agree my MPG is crap going to work and home. I work 2.8 miles away and hilly. So work and back its like 14mpg. As soon as i get on more open roads it goes up. Took at trip sunday up in the hills and the truck performed well. Yea, it likes that 6th gear. But show me a GEN2 that does 80 MPH @ 1900RPM.

If there are a ton of unsatisfied buyers, I certainly don't see them. The truck became available in late september '15.

I don't see many used ones or traded-in ones. They hold their value so well, one could probably sell a 3rd gen at a very slight loss.

Like I said, I just don't see people dumping their trucks.

You need to go out and sell your 3rd gen to buy a 2nd gen or some other vehicle that won't cause you so much grief. Until you do this, I fear that your hypochondria may be permanent.
