Now I'm curious. Does the 3rd gen get better MPG's than the 2nd gen or not? Can any consensus on that question be reached yet?

so it looks like the G3 V6 is only about 1 MPG better than the G2 V6 as of now, except for the weird 2011 anomaly.

I wonder if that will get a tad better as time goes on, and more the ratio of warm weather mileage reports increases. The 2016 numbers must be slightly skewed towards cold weather at the moment. I think you need at least a full model year to get the true picture.

Remapping program would fix this issue. I did hear that Toyota was working on one. Also ETC pwr button fixes this.

Yep same here, it does probably adjust the throttle mapping.

Looking at only the V6 Double Cabs, looks like there is a 1 MPG improvement of the 2016 over the 2013.

Have written before but interesting all the different ideas about the 2016 tacoma. Considering torque, it is virtually the same as the 4.0. People like me are complaining because there is a vibration (tranny?) at 1800-2200 rpm that can really get on your nerves. Local deal says all the 3.5's have it. Unless you have been driving diesels all your life this should bother most owners. other than that the truck is great. Gets 18-24 mpg when driven normally, which is better than the old 4.0. Toyota is calling me once a week to tell me if they've figured this out. My truck is for sale unless they figure this out.

I dunno, doesn't bother me a bit... and I don't notice the shifting, it's a friggin automatic... it's sposed to change gears. To me it seems like the accelerator is soft for maybe halfway and I'm assuming that's to help gas mileage. Seems to respond fine if I push the pedal hard enough. I'm wondering if maybe too many pantywaists are buying this truck and don't have the strength to get the job done :poking:

it appears they botched the video editing to show the wrong total gallons put in the 2015.

I don't want to turn this into an argument (I know things on the internet can escalate quickly) but what I am saying if 10 people (e.g. reviewers) say the exact same thing about something and you are confident that they came to those conclusions independently (i.e. a certain make and model has poor handling compared to other similar models) then I think it's perfectly reasonable to take that concern seriously. Whether that stops prospective buyer from further evaluating that car based upon that OR they decide to further evaluate and in their test drive note poor handling as a concern of the model to be closely checked on the test drive is another thing.

You could say the same thing about a restaurant - read online reviews (assuming you are confident in those reviews) and a large number of reviewers state they each got food poisoning when they went to that restaurant then you are likely not to eat at that restaurant.

I have dealt with the public and have a lot of experience in facilitating and evaluating surveys. Yes ONE persons ideas, thoughts, preferences are totally subjective but 10 or 100 saying the same thing independently - well you can easily pull patterns and likely truths from that.

Not necessarily true, though it certainly can be true. Obviously there's a big difference between something that's reviewed poorly every single time (you'd notice the issue right away regardless) and something that has mixed reviews. This truck has mixed reviews, so there's next to nothing to be gained from reading the reviews.

I've been to restaurants with 1 star ratings on yelp and noticed nothing out of the ordinary. I've also noticed that just about every single car dealership has mostly negative reviews online. What are you supposed to do with that info?

Just a compare to Fuelly #'s. EPA shows 2mpg combined better between 2015 and 2016. Funny thing is a few months back they used to have specific data for the 2016 double cab vs access cab but have since pulled it. They showed different #'s.

It hasn't changed significantly in my case. I hoped it would and to some degree I guess I've just become accustomed to it. But every time I hop in my lady's 2016 4Runner I'm reminded of how gutless my 2016 Tacoma feels upon push of the pedal....

Feel exactly the same way. Used to have the Fj cruiser and that thing moved once you push the pedal, showing again that the 42hp difference is useless if torque is almost non existent on lower rpms

I think it has more to do with throttle mapping and the new transmission (gear ratio and number of gears) only -1 ft/lb of torque loss should not really be noticeable even by the most sensitive driver.

yes, but also keep in mind the torque is higher, have to rev it more. In the 4.0 the torque came at lower rpms. The 3.5 is good from 5000 rpms up
