I have only been a citizen of this country for just over a year and i am already having to go to Jury Duty.... i have friends that were born here...are now in their mid-late 20's and have never had jury duty...

this sucks...i have to wake up 2 hours earlier than usual...drive 45 mins-an hour and a half away depending on traffic and spend all day NOT making money that i need at work... but instead making a total of like 5 bucks for my time...

    this really chaps my ass

check with your employer...they may offer you an option to turn over your jury duty pay in exchange for your regular pay

FWIW ive been able to be a juror for 9 years roughly

ive been called 4 times...twice for county and twice for federal

ive gotten excused all 4 times :)

i got excused 3 times for being a student...and then the last time i was excused because im law enforcement

LEO isnt an automatic excuse...but not many defense lawyers are going to let you be on their jury

I thought that's why people come to this country, so they can be a part of the great american system. :p

I was called to jury duty once. I was getting off of work from the night and had to sit in the big waiting room for a few hours with everyone else. Eventually someone came in and said that all the cases for the day had pled guilty so we were all free to go! You can always hope for that

I've gotten called 5 times in three different states- Never even had to show up- Military is pretty much a blanket exemption so I call the number and say that I am- and they say...Ok- You are excused.

And as far as it chapping your ass- You moved here and sign the line/made the oath bro- It's part and parcel of the package.

Called once, was chosen as an alternate, one juror didn't show so I was now Juror # 7. We deliberated for 3 hours after the trial and found him NOT GUILTY. I rather enjoyed the experience.

The prosecution totally screwed up the case. The testifying Trooper didn't help it either. He couldn't recall facts and the defense atorney tore him up. The judge even got on his case about some things. It was actually a little commical.

I am sorry you became a citizen of this country for all the benefits it has to offer and now we are torturing you with jury duty. Its so unfair! I think we should write to congress and explain that you didnt sign up to serve the country that took you in and that you dont think you should give anything in return. Leave it up to the government to treat immigrants so poorly. What is this country coming to? I hope you get out of it, its sooo unfair! Oh, and welcome to America. I know you'll fit in just fine.

The cop in my case was a bumbling idiot. He couldn't answer any of the defense's questions. It was a terroristic threat case. One guy was upset that they pro-rated his pay for the use of a chainsaw, when in fact he used his own chainsaw. Som he called his boss (the guy pressing charges) and asked why. Needless to say it erupted into a huge arguement where the defendant ending up threating to kill him.

We found him not guilty because PA has a clause called "Heat of the moment".

I got called once.... and that was 10-15 years ago (can't remember).
I was there for 2 days and didn't get picked (thank god!). It was a major Philadelphia case.....could've been ugly & long. My employer paid me for both days.
