    Haha

It's funny what you're looking to do, as my Parents are in the midst of the same decision. They've taken a few trips out to CO/CA/OR/WA recently to get an idea of where they'd like to move to. The most important aspects for them are affordability, mountains, plenty of good rec activities like hiking kayaking etc., having some coast close by, and being far from the city yet close to quaint little towns with some good opportunities for food and drink.

Northern California is absolutely beautiful. It's ridiculously expensive, but really a lovely landscape. I'm afraid you can't escape the MS-13s Diablos Fucktardos etc. anywhere in California! You may want to consider going slightly further North to escape crazy land prices and "el barrio."

    Screen Shot 2016-02-23 at 11.32.35 AM.jpg
Oregon is still less expensive than California, has no sales tax, and it boasts some of the best scenery in the country. Some of the bigger cities are getting too expensive, Portland gets droves of weirdos moving there every year, Bend is starting to fill up with McMansions built by rich old people. The smaller cities are still pristine. Ashland is starting to get a little bit rich retiree heavy and Medford has the older crowd trickling in as well, but there are many little towns and cities that are still cheap and devoid of transplants.

If you are looking to find a rural town surrounded by beautiful mountains, farmland and that's a reasonable distance from the coast, I think the Central valley of Oregon may be your answer. Draw a line from Portland down to Medford and you've just highlighted the old farming hub of the state. You've get a stellar volcanic mountain range to the East, gorgeous coastal range to the West, all the fresh produce you could eat in a million lifetimes, and in many parts of the central valley land is drastically less expensive than coastal Califuckyou!

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, this info just seemed to be right in line with your current mission. My fam may have twenty years on you, but it sounds like you're both looking for the same sort of place to move to. They aren't looking for work, but other than that the recreation landscape and population density all seem to be in line with your wants. I can pass on some of their pics/experiences from the West Coast to you if you like. Y'all can rack each others' brains on where the best place is to avoid gangbangers and drink beer.

I know trips out West don't come cheap, but you should really go North to South in Oregon and check out all the little farming communities. I'm sure you can find a small town Ohio feel out there with some cool little cafes and microbreweries as well as some dope fucking neighbors that will stick things in your B-hole in exchange for fresh Obsidian Blackberries.

The problem with Oregon is that they don't recognize my police certification. I'm not attending another academy at damn near 40 years old, and both she and I have already secured jobs in Cali, if we want them. Believe me, we prefered coastal Oregon the last time we were out here.

The reality is we have it pretty fucking good in Ohio. Neither of us is running from anything, and we don't need to move. We just want a change of scenery. I guess we need to figure out what cost we're willing to pay for that.

I used to do a lot of travelling when I was racing dirt bikes. I had a pick up with an enclosed trailer behind it. I found that local fire houses were a GREAT place to park for the night, so long as I could stay out of the way. Fire fighters seemed to like dirt bikes, so they were always friendly. They like 4wds too!

Yeah, way I see it the worst case is you'll be asked to leave. Hell, some business have corporate wide policies on not asking you to leave or having you towed until you're past the 48 hour mark. In a large enough parking lot like Walmart, as long as you left for at least part of the day and moved to a different place in the lot each night it would be a week before anyone noticed and another week or two before anyone cared, if they ever did. I think there's quite a lot of people who permanently live between 2 or 3 walmarts.

I witnessed some retarded shit today. My fathers car got rear ended today. The guy first told me it was his fault, acting not worried or anything until the popo showed up. INSTANTLY it was my dads fault, apparently cutting him off when he hit the van on the left side, which clearly shows he was established into the lane already and the other driver should've noticed him.

Ended up going to jail for driving while intoxicated.

The funny part is, as soon as the cops started giving him "attitude" he started yelling back how he is a Iraq vet with 2 tours to Iraq. Then as he was getting out in the car he really started bitching about those Iraq tours and asking if the cops know what it's like.. How does that help? Makes me lose respect for him as a veteran. I have a slight feeling like he was dishonorably discharged for some shit.

Using one's status as a veteran to get out of responsibility for a traffic collision is like using your immunity as a foreign diplomat to get away with rape and murder. Fuck that guy. He was probably a FOBbet anyway if he was ever deployed.

I know a few. The wife is one. Sometimes things happen that cannot be related to and the person has a poor time dealing with it. The wife has had her struggles after two tours.

It doesn't make right what happened today but I always try to give them the benifit of the doubt.

Your wife is a vet? I respect that! I'd love to enlist but so much other stuff going on that I cannot just leave.

We deal with vets a lot. Here's my take on them.

First, I have respect for those who served.... but.... I tend to think that the ones who insist on telling me, repeatedly, and unsolicited, about their service....are either liars, mentals, or otherwise narcisstic mother fuckers who have to validate their own insignificance by making themselves feel important through their service. I also have an issue with the ones that violate laws and then try to shove their veteran status down my throat, as if somehow the fact that they are veterans negates the criminal shit they just did. I especially enjoy when they insultingly ask me if I know what its like to be in combat and/or if I've killed someone like they have, as if that excuses them from being accountable.

The majority of them are quiet and unassuming but the vocal minority are often real assholes. And, as stated, I would wager the majority of those guys either didn't serve or got thrown out.

I'm a veteran also. I have only done one tour in Afghan but I've been to a bunch of other places around the world. I never rub my status in any one else's face. It feels disrespectful on both sides. However. .. when I go to stores or when I go to buy a big ticket item I always ask if they have military/veterans discounts and the clerks are always more than happy to give me the discount. Just because one is a vet doesn't one can get away with shit.

One thing I do hate tho.... when people hear I'm a vet... they ALWAYS ask "have you had to kill anybody?"
One. It's none of their business
Two. Even if I did I wouldn't tell them.
Three. I just smh and walk away.

I had one lady in Walmart cuss me out and said I should have died over in Afghanistan and I'm no better than the dirt she's walking on. It got under my skin because I couldn't figure out why she and many other people have so much hate for military and vets. I was close to hitting a bitch that night. Glad I didn't tho. I'd probably still be in jail lol

I just want to make sure I was clear, I am grateful for, and I respect veterans.

I do not care for those who violate the system and then demand immunity because of their status. I'm not referring to traffic violations either, because I'll give a vet a pass on that.

Would, but I've opted to go with Trail Gear sliders. They cost less than the AP sliders at 20% off... and I like the look of them better. Also, you can buy them in off road shops all across the country. So, that's one way to save on shipping!:D
