Need new speedometer gear

I changed gears in my 99 4wd, went from 4.10 to 4.56. Now my speedometer is reading faster then what I am traveling. I was doing 40mph coming back from the shop and my actual speed on a GPS was between 36-37.

I know you can change the speedometer gears to accommodate, my question is where is that gear located and where can I go to order these gears?

 

The gear is located on the passenger side of the transfer case. It's a dealer only part.

I pulled my speedo gear. Showed 32:11. Went to Toyota and ordered a 33:11.

Read somewhere 1 tooth adds about 5%. My speedo is 6% off, so a 33 with be real close. I'm plan to go a tad bigger tire soon, so should be dead on then.

 

No it's not. Many of those parts are interchangeable. You just need to match the transmission/transfercase. I got a different gear for my 2wd transmission from that list when I went from 31s to 255/85s. It put my speedometer exactly where it should be.

 

Well, the 33:11 gear made it a little better, but the speedometer is still fast. At 55 I'm actually doing 52.

Eventually I'll increase my tire size so that will help

 

What was the % of increase in your speedo going up 1 tooth?

 

Only a couple percent

 

I may try and sway gears out on mine, just went up to 4.88s and it's off quite a bit.
