LOL. All the spaceX positions require a 3.5 GPA. I have a 3.42 Plus they are prejudice towards us Engineering Technology guys even if we have our EIT license.

True. Right now I'm looking forward to learning more about it. I will be working on the design side with automation and controls.

 

I remember you telling me that. There definitely won't be any shortage of work. Chemical plants and terminals usually have the latest and greatest because, among other reasons, they're newer.

Refineries on the other hand, we're used to making do.

That's okay. GPA only gets you your first job after graduating. Then you are judged on your real work performance. I might suck at taking tests but I learn fast and outwork everyone.

During a downturn in a major IOC, downstream and chems make over half the profit. Meanwhile E&P gets cut cut cut and other companies lay off. We work the upstream folks into downstream during a downturn, but that also means we don't hire nearly as many campus recruits.

The fun thing as a chemicals guy is the upstream used to command a higher salary...the gap will be closed, unfortunately not by giving us a raise, but by giving upstream a cut...yikes. Also for a first time in years, campus offers ($) are less than previous years.

Yeah we are fancy...

It's also helpful that generally the spreads have been more favorable than they have in the past. 2015 was an excellent year for refiners, even those in Europe. Those poor bastards finally turned a profit for the first time in twenty years.
