How does a totaled out buy back work? A PDR won't work as there are spots that the paint chipped off.

They pay you local market value for your truck, minus salvage value (on a drivable tacoma prob 40%) and you keep it with a salvage title and they will drop the comprehensive policy.

Hail does not "chip" paint. However...it can and will (if the dent is big enough) flake paint off around the dent...typically on a prior repainted truck not OEM paint.

Without counting dents I would expect a $6k ish estimate. I am not talking final bill...estimate will be lower.

    I'll vote totaled. (sorry)

But if you like the vehicle, with it's low mileage, I'd go with the 'buy it back' crowd. You have a known quantity with solid mechanicals, just cosmetic issues.

Make lemonade! You won't have to consider where you park anymore. Not to mention fun to be had in the woods and the money and time saved from not needing to wash and wax.

lol wut ? 6 grand ? more like 15 grand

many of those those dents are not coming out, ever

unless you want to paint it with 88 lbs of bondo....

    -all 4 doors need replacing

-roof needs to be cut off and new one welded/bondo'd

    -hood, fenders, sides replaced

    paint

BIG JOB 7 grand for the sheel metal alone, then you need doors

If I were a betting man, and I am, I'll say that's a total. That's some of the worst hail damage I've seen.

You're in good hands, USAA has top notch claim service (yeah, you'll find an unhappy customer with every insurance company, can't please everyone all the time, but USAA is always rated at the top by JD Powers and their own customers).

Out there in AK, probably totaled like others said. Out here in OK (where hail is at least a weekly thing every spring), they'd probably be able to repair it. Like others have said, take the money and make a trail truck out of it. Use said money and throw that at a new or gently used one ;)

oh and just for kicks :itllbuffout: @grdgz97

Replace the hood and fenders aftermarket, then Line x the roof!
That'll cover most of it, good luck, that's one of my nightmares right there!

While stationed in OK, I was driving during a thunderstorm that dropped marble sized hail. Not big enough to do any dmg but damn, sounds like the end of the world when you're in your vehicle, thought for sure the sunroof was going to break. So imagine being in the vehicle during THAT hailstorm. Wow, might soil yourself.

i'm willing to be this is a total loss. this is significantly worse than the hail damage i got over the summer, and my car was almost totaled (different type of car, but like i said this is way worse)
especially the stuff on the pillars, that's way more difficult to come out. PDR is usually around $100-$150 per. i'm sure if you start counting just a few panels it'll add up quick

Replace roof and hood. Top surfaces are the worst. Combo of PDR and conventional repair to rest of truck.

I said $6k "estimate" not cost to repair. That is a different story and I would expect it to approach $10k.
