any of the state parks in the area is a good place to start. the state parks in and around the mountains have great views. the state parks near the beaches can also be awesome and the plus side is they're cheap and have showers. I love camping in the RTT in any state park around our area.

    Gotcha, NC for beach camping.

Yeah! We do a lot of hiking and are open to anything. We have pretty much two weeks to do whatever. Upstate SC for hiking. We're open to any and all suggestions of good trails.

Okay, good to know. We've gotten pretty accustomed to setting up camp in the middle of nowhere, so the occasional shower would be nice!

The outer banks in nc allow camping and driving on the beach. Depending on where you are both require permits that can be obtained at national park stations.

Cool, good deal. Can I buy/get the permits the same day, or should I look into getting them in advance?

OBX permit can be purchased same day. Find a spot near the beach entrance and have lunch. Entertainment will be free of charge. Last time I saw a brand new Land Rover spend 20 minutes trying to get on the beach. less skinny pedal is more

From everything I'm aware of you can get them same day.. think I heard a 7 day pass is 50 bucks now? Any local stores/fishing shops could probably get you taken care of.

I've got some good friends in Maine. I used to frequent the area for business trips with my old company. It was always to the Saco / Biddeford area.

Nice! I do love it here, but winter starts to get a little old when you're in the 4th month of it. We're really looking forward to getting out of state.

And I grew up in Winthrop, a little north and inland of Saco.
