Hello all - I truly apologies if I missed a similar thread, I searched but couldn't find anything current on the '16s.

I have a TRD sport, and heard the ORs are a bit more compliant with road bumps, etc. I'm actually interested in seeing what it would take to get a bit softer ride out of my sport. I bought the sport as I wanted the AC 6spd and hated the black accent work on the ORs, I'm 99.9% happy, but a bit softer ride would be fine with me.

I don't really want to throw a lift on her yet or blow a ton on new wheels and tires, so in essence I guess I am simply looking to replace stock components with something equally stockish just a bit softer.

    Any suggestions and thank you!

Check the classifieds, you can usually find an OR suspension there with only a few hundred miles on it for a very reasonable price.

I don't think you can get any softer than stock. Any future lift you put on will be stiffer than stock FYI.

For what you'd pay for the parts and install, you wouldn't notice enough difference to be worth it.

Maybe my mistake for thinking others can turn a wrench, but $250 doesn't seem like to much to pay to find out if the OR suspension is more to OP's liking. Swapping assembled coilovers is about as simple a job as you can get. Besides, there's going to be some recoup when he sells the existing suspension.

I'm just saying the difference between the suspensions probably won't be worth the effort. Who buys a truck for a soft ride anyway?

I do. Compliance is very important, especially for road chatter. It's important to note that the off road shocks are tuned to ramp up as they progress through shock travel. Ask any mountain biker, a good suspension product does exactly that.

I was thinking about asking the same thing...I don't have my TRD Sport yet but have heard the OR suspension is a lot nicer...wondering what to switch out to make a nicer ride? Just shocks or ?

    Ignore all the negative comments...

A person who's father passed away 3 years ago (who had a truck to borrow), doesn't do offroading, but owns a house on his own and needs to be able to handle trips to the dump, home depot, etc without borrowing someone elses, and who has a girlfriend who has Crohns disease which makes harsh vehicle rides miserably painful and difficult for any length of time in the truck.

Being a bit softer would be nice, I keep reading people having driven the ORs vs the Sports noticed a huge difference in how easy the ORs absorbed street driving potholes and imperfections in road surfaces, and thought it might be worth a shot to make my girlfriends experience while riding on trips to the beach or to where her family lives 6 hours away more pleasurable.

If you're gonna swap out the suspension, look at aftermarket shocks. Bilstein 5100s set at 0". I've heard they have a nicer ride.

The or has progressive springs and billstein shocks where the sport has linear springs and basic shocks(I forget the brand). The or will adsorb bumps better at stock height. However, if you compress progressive springs (read lift the truck) they will become noticeable stiffer than sport springs compressed the same amount.

This may sound weird but me and a buddy both bought 2013 Tacomas, he got the OR and I got the Sport. The suspension felt identical on the road, both ran the same and the front of my sport sat 1 inch higher in the front. He has since modified his truck so Im sure it isnt the same now but we both thought it kinda wacky that the Sport sat 1 inch higher in the front.

Here's an idea. To to a dealer and test drive an OR, and see if you like it more before committing to the swap.

Just get rid of those craptastic stock tires - I've go a TRD Sport love the stiffer ride. Those stock tires completely suck a$$ - dangerous specially in wet weather.

My ride softened up a tad after we installed new tires and wheels.

Tires are: Nitto Terra Grappler G2 265/70R17 - made a HUGE improvement in wet, snow, mud & dry a tad more noisy but very tolerable specially considering my much better handling properties even at speed.

Hopping on this thread for a similar question. I am just hitting the 150,000 mile mark on my 2006 TRD Sport and have the original shocks with the leaf spring TSB. Crawling under the truck changing all the fluids I feel like the truck is sitting a little lower than it used to be and wondering if its time for new shocks. I know absolutely nothing about aftermarket shocks. Is there a preferred go-to shock to replace to OEM's that you guys like?

I drive paved city roads and highway mostly, but I live in New Orleans so given the condition of our roads you could say I pretty much drive off-road most days.

My current tires are brand new Michelin Destination H/T's.

Bilsteine 5100s. And set those at stock height. You'll never go wrong. And it's a day/night difference. Get an alignment after too.

To further up on this thread, I sold my OR Bilstein suspension in the classifieds to a individual who wanted to replace his Sport Suspension with a lift. So I would say it would be an improvement over the sport. As he paid for shipping, total cost out the door was 210.00
