Are they using synthetic oil? I used Mobil 1 synthetic in my ranger and it could easily go 10,000+ miles. Yes I would check it inder a microscope...I'm a nerd like that.

Do you have the 2.7 or 4.0? I changed the oil myself at 7000km and was going to wait 8000 to do the next one. I've never heard of 16000km OCI's for a second gen though. I'll see what my old man says tonight. He was the parts manager at a yota dealer forever and has a 2009 2.7 and a 2013ish Camry 2.5. I guess it should be in the owners manual though too.

I have the 4.0 V6 in my Tacoma. I used to own Fords and they have always recommended 5000 mile OCI's but they also use Motocraft oil which is a synthetic/conventional blend. Toyota uses full synthetic. I'm sure years ago Toyota was 5000 though. I just text my buddy that bought his wife a 2015 corolla and he said they told him 10,000 miles also. Ask your local dealer, I'm interested now haha. I wonder if it would have anything to do with the location. Canada vs US?

Where are you getting this 10k number? Certainly not the owners manual. Toyota says 5k.

I have a 2014 and they told me every 5,000

Maybe it depends on the year?! Newer goes longer?!

Yes sir, Toyota swears by the 10,000 mile OCI. I argued with them for quite a while even speaking to the regional director of Toyota Motor Company and kept getting the same story...paying to have it changed every 5000 would be a waste of money. I asked the dealer to see the oil that they drained out of my truck and it was a little brown but for the most part looked new.

Seriously?? I'm really gonna be pissed if they should have changed it at 5000. I argued with them forever on that.

I got it from Toyota themselves. Toyota of Easley...Toyota of Greenville...and Toyota Motor Company.

I'm sure everyone has their own opinion on this, so here goes mine. If the dealership told you 10K, I'm sure they would have a reason or know why, versus 5k. Being the "sucker" and noob that I am at this, I would believe them and go with their "knowledge".

I don't care what the manufacturer recommendation is, I'm changing oil on a brand new vehicle at 2000 miles or less the first time no matter what. It is break-in period and doesn't matter if it is synthetic, I'm gonna roll with it to 2k max and then start doing 6 maybe 7k changes with full synthetic, tops. Now if it holds 10 quarts then maybe I'd go longer but not with a 4cyl with 5 qts. I will error on the safety side of fresh oil/filter sooner than the limits are defined, others are free to do as they choose. Either way, I'm doing my maintenance which is another error of the side of safety vs. overworked distracted uncaring people putting my commuting reliability at risk. No thanks..........

Yeah, that's what I did. I had my wife's 2012 Camry and it was a 10,000 mile OCI. Then I traded it for a 2015 4Runner for her in feb last year. It now has 16000 miles on it and only had the oil changed at 10,000 miles. So of course when they said the same thing about my Tacoma, I just went with it. The past three Toyota's I've owned have been 10,000 mile OCI's. 2012 Camry...2015 4Runner...2015 Tacoma.

Those are privately owned dealerships. Not Toyota, USA.

    Look in your owners manual.

If you have the 2.7L the manual says synthetic. The 4.0 it says non-synthetic. I'm NOT saying synthetic can't go 10k. What I AM saying is that Toyota says in your manual 5k miles.

Hey, i'm with ya on your logic. I have always changed my oil religiously at 3000. My Toyota's are the only ones that I have went with the manufacturers suggested OCI.

Does that mean don't use synthetic oil in the 4.0? Only use conventional?
