Well shit. You're right dude....well, sort of. Just checked the OM and it states 8,000 km for the first change, then 16,000 km after that. Never heard of that before.

Wow. I haven't checked my owners manual yet but you better believe if it says 5000 I'm going to be giving them a piece of my mind. It doesn't explain why Toyota motor company told me 10,000 though. If it's in the owners manual...they should know. I have the 4.0 in our 4Runner and in my Tacoma. both were changed at 10,000.

I went through this with my dealer, like @Kyitty says it's 5000mi on the 4.0
I'd go back to that dealer with the manual, and demand to see the service manager, the service writer is a dumbass!

I still need to go get my manual...If that's the case they should have changed it at 5000 miles for the first time and then 10,000 after that. I'll let everyone know what I find in my manual. According to @Kyitty , it shows 5000. IM SO CONFUSED!!! HAHA

5100's all around with OME 884 at 0. Weathertechs, Carhartt seat covers. BFG KO2's 265/70/17. T4R SEMA wheels. 18% tint on front windows. General Springs HD 4 leaf pack, Leer 100 XR shell.

looks like the window at toyota of Greenville. hope you didnt let the dark hair'd service girl pull your car around....
they are also the ones who left the gatorade bottle in my engine bay at 5000 mile oil change.

I go all the way out to Greer now. not sure if its any better but they havent done anything stupid yet except rotate my tires when I asked them not to.

Haha, yep you are correct lol. We have been discussing the oil change interval for the Tacomas. You had your oil changed at 5000 at Greenville??

Did you have to do any modifications on that USB/AUX? I tried moving mine and it looked like it was made to just fit in that specific slot? I only tried moving it all the way to the rigth though. I think my next move is to just tuck it back behind and run a USB/AUX to the glove box.

toyota of Greenville changed it at 5000, like it says in my manual and on my toyota care. they left a drain bottle (gatorade bottle) in the engine bay and the belt cut it and flung oil over everything. then the dark hair girl bumped into another car when she was pulling it around because "shes still learning to drive stick". no damage but that ended it with that group

but to answer your question, they should have changed it at 5000.

Yes it did require a minor trim with a scalpel. Took me all of 10 seconds.

Well, actually mine wasn't in the manual. Mine said to get service intervals from the owners manual supplement. However, the supplement covers ALL 2015 toyotas, which is a bit odd. I would go by your manual which is specific to the truck I guess. I'm sure in 2003 4runners, the OCI in 8000km. I don't see how they can double the OCI for the same engine 12 years later.

Lots of bolt on chrome stuff
I broke my passenger side last winter and replaced both with depo black lights. I think I still have the driver floating around in the garage somewhere (off my 2012). Where are you located?

As for the oil change debate, my 2012 4.0 owners manual says every 8000km, which would be 5000 miles. Does the 10k interval come with a change to full synthetic, or is it for the 2.7 or something?

It's all about warranty. Synthetic arguably is fine at 10k miles as I understand. However, if Toyota says 5k and you have a major engine problem and records show you only change at 10k they might have legal grounds to refuse warranty coverage on a technicality.

It's all about covering your own ass. I'm using Synthetic Mobile One since my second oil change. But I think I'll still be following the manual just because.

My dealer put in the Mobile One for me during my Toyota Care visit. But they notated on the work order that they were using customer supplied oil. Even they want to cover their own ass. Even if they do know that retail packaged Mobile One Synthetic is the bomb.

Thanks man, I've been on the phone with them for about 20 min talking to the service manager. He pulled up my VIN and said that they changed the oil in my Tacoma at 5000 miles. I went through the whole thing with him about how I questioned that with them and the service advisor kept telling me that 10,000 was the service interval on my truck. He basically concluded that the service advisor at the time of my 5000 mile service was an idiot and was someone that no longer worked for them any longer. So looks like my Tacoma had an oil change at 5000 after all!!! YAYYYYY! lol.

On another note...my wife's 2015 4Runner with the same 4.0 engine is only changed every 10,000 miles. Not sure why they use the synthetic in the 4Runner but conventional in the Tacoma.
