Hello all! Orders are in and I am moving to Chesapeake Virginia in June. My wife and I are looking at retiring her Dodge Nitro (don't hate, we got it for free basically) and replacing it with a new 4Runner TRD Pro. Does anyone have any advice on how to find one? It seems Toyota.com will only let me pick certain colors in certain areas (she wants the orange or nothing). I assume those color choices are the ones that are available on the lot, and I can't actually "build" one. Can I order a 4Runner if I put a down payment? I've never tried to buy a vehicle this specific before.

    Thanks!

congrats on your orders and being able to keep your guns. I'd have to check around here but I've seen two or three of the TRD Pro 4R's that color in the area so I know they are available

Thank you and thank you! I emailed a few dealerships via cars.com so we'll see if they respond. I'd like to do something to lock one down because it seems that color goes quick. If I can't get the 4Runner my wife wants a Jeep Renegade

I ordered my truck in its specific configuration as none were coming to my state the way I wanted. I would imagine that you can do the same for the T4R Pro. Find the local dealer and get in contact with the sales department. Describe what you want and inquire about how to get it. If ordered you'll have to put down a deposit, then wait for it to be built and delivered. If they can't get what you want, move on to the next dealership. Good luck.

Back in 09 when I bought my RAV4, I wanted a specific color, trim, and engine. The local dealer did a search of regional dealers, and found the one I was looking for, and had it shipped in. I had it the next day.
Not sure if they still do that, but you can ask your local dealership...

Thanks guys for the replies. I guess I'll have to wait and see what the dealer says. I emailed three and CC'ed them all so hopefully that'll keep the bullshit to a minimum.

 from your future home! I've seen a couple of the orange TRD Pros around here. The dealership is right up the street from me. Next time I ride by, I'll take a look for ya.

The 2016 T4R TRD Pro was only made in Super White, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Quicksand. Inferno was offered for 2015 only.

You're right, I didn't even think of that. And I doubt there are (m)any that haven't been bought. Looks like you'll be searching for a used one, OP.

Damn you are right! Cars.com said they had a 2015 Inferno new on the lot so hopefully that's true! I have no problem doing a new 15 vs 16. Nothing changed those years correct?

Kind of a funny update for you guys. I have contacted four dealerships in the Chesapeake area, and they all have given me wildly different responses. Some dealerships will hold the currently in-stock Pro with a deposit, some will not, some are telling me they can "build" me a 4Runner, others are saying they can't even get me a Pro, but they have limiteds in stock. Guess I better get out my bullshit sifter because I suspect I'm gonna be getting a lot of answers, all with the intentions of putting me in whatever vehicle they have on the lot that they can upsale me on.

Sounds like you need to just inform them of what you want, and stick to your guns. Buy nothing but what you want. If they have that on the lot and are willing to hold it for a deposit, and you're comfortable with putting one down, than I'd do it. I just recommend if you do put a deposit, make sure it's refundable in case they blow smoke up your ass and actually don't have what you want. Maybe have them send you pictures of the vehicle in question?

If they don't have it in stock, or won't hold it for you, see what you can do to order it. After I ordered my truck I had my parents (was out of town for work) send me pictures of it as soon as it hit the lot to confirm it was the actual trim/package/configuration I ordered.

^^^this - the 3rd gen forum is full of stories where folks had ordered their truck, put down deposits, had all of the paperwork showing the build/delivery status just to find out that when they showed up at the dealership the truck had been sold to the 1st guy that walked in off the street that morning. Dealerships seem to be more than willing to screw a buyer over when there's another buyer there with cash in hand.

Don't let them build you one. Just be sure to check to make sure yours is a real Pro if that's what you're after. So many dealers around here are creating their own Pros, charging more than s real Pro, and giving you worse suspension.

Thanks guys that's all good points. I'll ensure that the deposit is refundable if they pull some shit like that. One dealership is telling me that they have a 2016 Pro in Quicksand allocated to them for May with all the options I want and they are willing to take a deposit. No word back yet how much that deposit is. They did send me a spec sheet with VIN and everything so hopefully that'll make it a little more legit.

Now I just gotta convince the wife of the quicksand color haha. I like it a lot, its something different. The white and MGM don't really do it for me.

All I can tell you is I only put down $1k for a deposit. But my truck was $31.5k, not $40K+.

Good news! A dealership in VA is getting a 2016 TRD Pro in Quicksand in May. They're asking for a $500 deposit and they will hold it for us until we arrive in June. Wife likes the Quicksand color so that's one less hurdle. Gonna test drive one out here just to be sure and then the deposit and paperwork will get started. I am going to ensure paperwork is done so they don't try some shady shit.

    Aww yeah!

    Congrats!

I would have loved one in inferno, but out of the colors available now, quicksand is by far my favorite.

Thanks! Yeah we weren't feeling the other colors either. None of them were 'different' enough from the rest of the regular line up of the 4Runners. Once I saw the Quicksand I was like yep, that's the one. And now If my wife wants to go hide in the desert or do some clandestine paramilitary ops or something ya know, its already the right color.

Waiting on the spec sheet from the dealer to see what options it comes with. At the very least we want to get the factory remote start.
