For those that got their windows tinted and have the sun roof, did you have them tint the sun roof glass too?

My dealer would not do it saying that if left in the sun they have seen the glass shatter. Never hear of this happening, thinking it's more difficult as a tint shop wanted $200 to install ceramic tint on it.

Would be interested to know if the dealer is just blowing smoke up ma a$$ just not to do it.

When I had my Drone Mobil auto starter installed I had the window tint guy do my sun roof - he said no problem people do it all of the time with zero problems.

Just as you suspect your guy was blowing smoke, I'm interested to hear what others have to say in case my guy was also blowing smoke...

I had a car with t-tops in AZ a few years ago. I asked the shop about tinting glass on the roof. He said it's super smart to do and has zero setbacks. Only legitimate reason I could think was if the tint could get scratched up when the glass opened/closed. Obviously I didn't have this issue with the t-tops, but I also didn't have any issues with the glass shattering or even getting stupid hot in the summer heat.

Just curious, what would be the point of tinting the sunroof?
I mean, if you don't want light coming in, then you could just close the inside cover.
Personally, I like to open the cover when its raining or overcast out just so I could get more light in.

Personally, I never close the cover, so in the summer, I want to reduce the amount of heat generated. The glass already has a slight tint, but the stuff I put on really reduces the amount of heat coming through.

I also like keeping it open and it makes the cab fell bigger. I just called a major high end dealer that does ceramic tinting on high end cars. He said the following "yes smaller sun roofs can shatter in the hot sun when tint is applied as the glass cannot expand like it can with larger panorama roofs. He went on to say the only way to help it is the higher end nano ceramic tint, but could not guarantee that it wouldn't happen. When asked would he recommend not doing it, he said yes he would. So I guess I won't do it, I know on my nieces 4Runner they had it done and it makes a huge difference on the UV you feel.

So I will not take the chance, as it would be out of my pocket if it did and you know Murphy's Law says it would happen to me.

Not sure if skylights in a house would be made the same way as sunroofs in cars. However I was in the process of building a 4 seasons room and I called to have my skylights tinted and the Tint company told me he would do it however would not guarantee work. Reason being the glass could shatter. He told me to contact Velux so I did and velux also said Not to TiNt Because it could affect the glass in a negative way. Not sure why .....best of luck
